Gussys been sleepy/lethargic all day, should I be concerned? It's beautiful out and birds are chirping, he hasn't moved since 7am when he woke up and did some morning calls. He has been on this perch with Oslo and cuddly all day. We all know Gus is the bossy, loud, climbing machine so this definitely isn't like him.:( Then again, I am normally at work at this time so this could be their nap time, I am not sure. Now, the even more important question: Can this behavior be due to him molting? I took some pictures of him (sorry ahead of time because they aren't that great of quality) and it looks like the feathers on his back are missing. Again, I've never been through a molt before so I don't know what to look for or what it looks like. I'm wondering if he is just uncomfortable and he IS in fact molting. Thanks in advance!!

Here's the pics (they are cute though aren't they?):

Have you seen him eat breakfast? Are his little eyes open?

It's still pretty early in the day, maybe he just didn't sleep well.

I'd just keep checking on him for the next few hours. Or you could take him out and check him over now.

Let us know how he is :)

How old is Gussy now? I'm looking at photo #2 and not seeing any definitive signs of molting. Since Gussy is part Peachie, you would see some freckling on the facial mask and I'm not seeing it.

Looks to me like he is just enjoying the sunshine.

What time does he go to bed? Peanut cuddles with me at 8 until 9 or so, later on the weekends. But, we don't get them up until 9 the next morning. Maybe he didn't sleep well last night. Was there anything unusual? A nightfright? A storm? Windy? etc.

He could be molting. Molting takes a lot out on a birdy.

Keep watching him but not to a point where you are disturbing him LOL He might let you know in no uncertain terms that he doesn't want to be disturbed! Watch his poos and watch to see if he is eating or drinking.

Oh, and watch to see if he is preening. A sick bird won't preen.

It's now 5:15pm. Gus has been sleeping all day. I caught him eating once and he's been in his cage on a perch the entire day. I hope he just didn't sleep well last night and is using the day to catch up.
