ok, so i know that one symptom of a sick bird is if they're sleeping on the bottom of their cage. well, evie is sleeping on the bottom of her cage under her food bowl. I don't think she's sick cuz she's pooping fine, eating, full of energy, no fluffiness, nothing. No other symptoms of sickness that I can see, the ones on the checklist.

Could I be wrong in thinking that she's missing her happy hut? I got her a different hut from Joey and Pan's and hers ripped in the washer yesterday. I had to toss it. I think she's missing that. She tried to sneak into joey's cage to go to his hut.

could she be sick? Or is she just missing her hut?

The reason I knew Gus was sick, the real big giveaway for me was he was quiet and he was a poof ball. Gus was always full of energy and running about, yelling and chirping. The minute he was eerily quiet I knew something was wrong. You can probably judge your bird better than anyone else, you know what is normal and what isn't. My advice is, if you think she is sick by all means take her to the vet, don't wait until its too late. I do not know about sleeping at the bottom of the cage, mine never did that, but they were sick nonetheless. I hope you find an answer.

no, she's not poofy or anything. I seriously just think she misses her hut cuz she was on her way to Joey's hut when I went to get her. Getting her out of there is a pain. I am gonna go get her one this weekend. I wasn't gonna get her one, but I know she really likes it. But I am asking cuz I don't want to think that I know what she's feeling and thinking, you know what i mean? I also want to make sure I'm not overlooking anything.

when can you get her a new hut? can you borrow the other one for her? then you will know for sure.

my hens have sat at the bottom when they are nesty and trying to lay an egg without a box or anything to nest in. they back up in the corner.

if she is not puffy, and acting just fine, i would think the missing happy hut might be triggering this. particularly if she has been nesty at all. though these guys do mask their illnesses.

try another hut and see what happens.

she's been hormonal, but she's not an angry nesty hen though, or at least not like some hens i've been reading bout on here. yeah, i'll try w/ joey's hut. hopefully she's not sick.

I would tend to think it might be a reaction to her hut missing if there are no other symptoms. Definitely try putting a hut back in there and see what happens.

how lucky for you!! :) I have had them range from literally running across the room to bite my toes, even while I am totally minding my business:omg:, to just shredding the wooden perches and sitting on the bottom, without any adverse attitude. by "nesty" I mean looking to lay...then she might sit at the bottom, even if she is not crabby!

If Evie's behavior is fine except for sitting under her food bowel I would say it's a nesty behavior. I stopped giving my hens any nestboxes and they each find a corner to make their nesty area. I have one in fact, who sits under her food bowel.

Not all hens are crazy nasty things that will defend the nest to their deaths. I have some I can pet, love on, and pick up while they are on eggs and babies. It really depends on their personality. However, the longer you let Evie make this her nesty place, the more protective she is likely to get. I would start moving things around in her cage. If you do put a hut in her cage, I would definately remove it during the day. She may try and nest in there, which includes hut destruction and egg laying in the hut. And, the more she chews on the hut, the more dangerous the hut gets.

Whew........I've had way to many nesty egg laying experiences in my life. I just want someone to event birdy birth control!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was the first sign that Bobble was eggnant, she kept backing up under the food dish until i put something in for her to make a nest out of :)

no, she is so not sick at all, just misses her hut and sitting underneath her food bowl. I just moved things around in her cage on monday. i switch out their items, put the things in joey's cage into evie's, evie's in pan's, and pan's into joey's.
