Hey all,

My two lovies have suddenly become very confident in their new home and have taken to nibbling clothes that i am wearing, they also chew until there are holes in them. I've tried to put them in their cage but they are hard to catch and always fly off, i've sprayed them with water but they love it. Any ideas how to train them not to do it?

Unfortunately, chewing is what most parrots do and it's part of being a Psittacine slave!!! Yours just happen to like clothing..... :omg: Be thankful that they are not macaws that like buttons and can remove them with just one snip! (I have 2 that love to do that...)

My best suggestion is have something available on your person or with you that you can offer them to chew that's not what you are wearing. While you can't change the behavior, you can modify what they have access to.

My little Pip chews holes in my shirts all the time! He even taught Ivy how to do it! Luckily though Ivy lost interest in it after a while.....but Pip still loves to chew my clothes!!!

I have birdy shirts, old tees that I don't mind getting holes in. That's one way to solve the problem! As for nicer clothes, I just don't wear them when the birds come out.

hi, I've made a bird t-shirt and a cover over for clothes.
the t-shirt is just an old shirt that i've stitched buttons, beads and other intresting things onto for the birds to chew and play with. There is also the cover over which is like a shawl/cardigan with the same sorts of things sewn on to keep them busy.
