This month has just been peachy for me. Im sorry i couldnt get on more. I work at a very small pizzaria. Theres only 3 of us that work the counter, same shift every week. So what are the odds when the other 2 of my workers end up in the ER, the same week, for completely different reason? :very_sad:

I had to cover all the shifts. Exhausting I might add. My husband even came in on his day off to help me Friday cuz theres NO way i wouldve handled that day by myself. It gets way too busy and hectic.

So on another note, my fids are doing great. Jaden (my G2) started plucking again because of me being gone..but is now mellowing down on it. The lovies are mischievous as always. Both finally got their full masks in (pics below!)

I was also given another tiel. A little story on her.... my MIL bought her for a friend for her tiel. Well they didnt get along, so she gave it to HER MIL (erics grandmother..following? lol). Shes had it about a year. But found out shortly after she got it she was very allergic. She couldnt go near the cage, but couldnt find anyone to take him. I didnt know..or i wouldve much sooner!

She used to breed them and have many, and all of a sudden developed this allergy. It was weird. So my MIL picked him up for me, brought him over and i about died. His cage, was OKAY for a lovebird. (keep in mind hes been locked up for a year...never let out). It was NOT a he like she said, but a SHE. A normal grey tiel. Her left wing droops..which i come to find out from other people on the board it mustve broken a long time ago and never healed right. (but doesnt seem to be bothering her now). ONE perch (small enough for a lovie) and no toys. Youd think someone of her statue would KNOW a bird needed more than that??? *sigh*

I cleaned the filthy cage up, bought her rope perches, natural perches MEANT for a tiel, new toys, bells, mirrors, etc. Now she doesnt want to come out!! lol. She was so excited. Poor girl. And even after a year of being locked up, if she comes out on her own, shell step up for me, let me kiss her, give her scritches..shes such a doll. Oh, and did i mention, she REAKS of smoke. UGH. Im using the cage for Quarantine being that its familiar to her, but later on im going to try to move her into my tiels flight cage and see how that goes.

So now that my life is getting back to a little normal ill try to post more often. Hers a few pics of the evils and Freckles!

awww poor tiel!! That made me sad just reading about it. & smelling like smoke, too? Gross. Stormymom, birds are truly blessed when they get to come to your home, you are nothing but fabulous with them and I know they will live out wonderful happy, healthy lives in your care. You're a great person to take them in like you do and love them unconditionally!! Your lovebirds look adorable by the way - almost all grown up!!

Aw thanks guys! I have to admit I thought I was at my limit besides my masked coming home in several months but I could never turn down a bird in need. Especially a tiel. It was my first bird and ill always have a soft spot for them!

I also added a shredding toy in her cage after I took the picture. She's been going to town on it!

Her name is Freckles :D She was named after the yellow spots on her chest (you can see it in one of the photos). I thought the name was cute so i kept it. Of course she doesnt know it because she was never acknowledged :(

I always feel like people get tiels as "beginner" birds to dump later for a larger "better" bird. Maybe thats why i always have a soft spot for them. (same with lovies and keets). I feel smaller birds have just as much to offer as a big bird, if not more AND...theyre cheaper to maintain! I can buy TONS of toys for them, that would cover maybe ONE toy for my Goffins.

Ive had my oldest tiel since i was 9. Shes now 14 years old, weve grown up together, and shes still my sweet sweet girl. Unfortunately my mom was one of the "wanting a bigger parrot, get rid of the tiel" people and i just despised them for that. So i took all the tiels (at the time it was 4)

Maybe thats why ill always have my home open to them. I just cant see how people can treat them like they dont deserve as much as a larger bird. Really grinds my gears >.<

Also if you notice in the pic of the cage before..shes gripping the side of her cage. This is how she perched rather than to sit on that itty bitty one below. Im assuming it hurt her feet. I bought her that rope perch, and she hasnt clung to the side of the cage since.

Awww, poor little Freckles. She's so lucky to have found you! You are such a good bird mommy! It makes me so sad that there are people out there who can ignore these precious creatures. I know that once I'm no longer a student (in August!), I will have a bit more freedom to take in rescues.

It sounds like Freckles hit the birdy jackpot in finding her way to your home! I agree that too many birds are tossed away one way or another, which is why I always love a great rescue story:):).
