I was chatting up my birds to the guy that is building a new cabinet and counter top for a kitchen here and he told me something I hadn't heard yet.
There are wild parrots in Pacific Grove!!
PG (Pacific Grove) sits between Monterey and Pebble Beach. The guy lives in PG up on a hill and says you can hear them coming when they fly up the hill.
He said they are about the same size as Zoey with red on their head. Could it be more Cherry head Conures?
I aim to find out!!
He said in the area of George Washington Park.

Hi Jim.,
They could be Cherry Headed Conures or even possibly Mitreds. I'll be interested to hear about/see what you find!

I don't know if it's the same flock or not, but there is a flock that lives in a tree quite near me--in P.G. They fly by my window on a regular basis. One day there must have been an insect swarm or something because they were playing fighter pilot right outside my window for about 10 minutes. I was told about them when I first moved here but never saw them. My neighbor pointed out the tree, but I just couldn't catch a glimpse. Then, one day as I was walking down the driveway, they flew right over my head, squawking like mad. It took me a moment to process their shape. Then I realized I'd been seeing them for months & thought they were crows! They don't look green on the wing. I don't know what kind they are but have wondered if they are conures. They've been here for years. I was told once that a line man who was doing some work rescued some babies & that they were green & yellow. Don't know if that's true or not. Maybe we could ask at Avian & Exotics if they know what kind of parrot they are?

being as I am soon to be unemployed and job hunting is now done on-line, it will give me something to do. So if you hear stories about some bald headed dude stalking the neighborhoods of PG, its me. :D

Bummer! Hope both hunts--for job & wild parrots--are short and successful!

Several years ago, my husband and I hiked up to Coit Tower in San Francisco, and we were still a few blocks from the Tower, when we heard a loud racket. As we got nearer to the Tower, it became clear that the racket was bird sounds, full-throated screeching, and as the parrots flew overhead, depending on the play of the light, some of them were green and some were dark, displaying flashes of red heads. When they landed in the trees, suddenly they were invisible, with no indications of where they were, except for the screeching and if they moved around after landing. It was quite a large flock.
Perhaps a similar experience will be yours. :) Get ready with your camera; I was too slow with mine.
Yes, job hunting today is all done online. Good luck with your search.
Say, is Sophie wearing booties in your picture at the bottom? Anyway, she looks like she's wearing surgical booties. Cute girl.
