I came home from work at 3 today to find my inner door (after the screen door) locked. Which i thought was weird cuz i never lock it. I went to walk thru the carport door, which i found unlatched.

When i walked thru Buddy busted out from the back yard door to run to me. I knew right then and there something was wrong. I walk in to find Lacey missing (i found her later on locked in the bedroom). Jadens cage door wide open, hes gone. Baileys gone, they took Mikas whole cage which wasnt very big. They left everyone else. Took all appliances, TV, camera, Xbox, PS3.

Guys im a total mess. I havent stopped shaking and the police still arent here. My babies are out with some stranger and i cant do anything. Im running around all day tomorrow to put flyers EVERYWHERE. If you guys can let me know places to post or post for me. Im just so lost.

Jadens a Goffins cockatoo, Mikas a Quaker, and Bailey is a blue IRN

Oh my gosh.....this is just unbelievable that someone would do this....I can see taking things, but birds?? I can't even imagine what you are going through right now! I would post this EVERYWHERE I could if I were you....mabye even call your local news station.....if they see how upsetting this is for you that your pets are missing, they put something on the news for you....it's worth a try.....and if it was me, I'd probably be knocking down their door hysterical! Obviously whoever took them, and took the other stuff is looking to make money....so they'll try to sell your birds......you need to get the word out! If anyone ever broke in here, my only bigger bird is Ivy, and she is terrified of strangers.....I don't know if I would be able to calm down or stop crying. I could see where taking a nice size cage they could make money as well....plus makes it easier to take the bird. It's stories like these that make me feel so lucky to have the neighbors I have! We often look around at other houses because this one is so close to the road! but that's the only bad thing about it! It's a great house, with a nice yard and you just can't beat the neighbors we have. Across the street there is an older woman, retired who is home alot and she is always looking out the windows and is one of those nosey ones that knows everything! She knows when someone comes to our door when we are out....no one would ever get out of this house with anything with her right across the street!
I feel just terrible for you.......and for your birds :very_sad: I'll be hoping real hard that they are back home soon.

I am so sorry to hear what happened. It is one of my biggest fear. It seems they definitely knew what they came for.

Don't forget to contact local vets, spca and pet stores. post an add on Craigs list and any online adds you can think of so if there is a bird similar to yours hopefully someone will be kind enough to let you know.

If you want to get an add with pictures availlable I'm sure some members around can start posting them online and pass the message around.

I'll keep you and your flock in my prayers.

Do you know if your neighbors saw anything amiss? I don't know if you know them at all or if you even have close neighbors. . . maybe see if they heard anything strange or saw anyone weird. . . sometimes I notice things like that going on in our neighborhood, strangers and such . . . prayers for your family!

Were any of these birds banded? I am going to spread this info to my other forums.....I know green quakers and goffins are both common birds, so it will be hard to identify them if they don't have a band.

Everyone's given all excellent suggestions- yes, absolutely keep an eye out on:

Craigslist
Want Ad
Kijiji
Hoobly

Chris recommended answering any ads re: these birds up for sale in your area- but if you do this, PLEASE BE CAREFUL! If you end up going to meet up with people who you suspect may have your birds, don't go alone- if you suspect you've found your birds, call the police, even if they seem not to care. I know how police can sometimes be with regard to lost or stolen pets, I hope for your sake that the ones dealing with your case are helpful!

Can anyone else list other sites on which birds and other animals are often sold or traded?

Pips Mom made an excellent point- spreading the word about this on other bird forums. I will do so on mine so that if anyone has information or if anyone may go onto the sites looking to sell, they will contact me and I can pass on the information.

Perhaps someone can make a website?

My goodness, Jan, if there is ANYTHING we can do for you- you know my e-mail. Do not hesitate to PM me. I am off to send a message to my other bird forum and mailing list.

Our hearts go out to you.

HUGS&HUGS&HUGS to you & the flock.

I posted an add for you on craigslist......I know you aren't thinking straight right now and hadn't posted yet, so until you are able to, there needs to be the warning out there asap! chances are good whoever has the birds will want to sell them quick! Please when you can post a more detailed add, ok? with your contact info
Oh,,,,nevermind....I see that you posted an add. Geez, they post alot of adds in your area! so many for one day that I never even saw the one you posted! Please post it again each day seeing that so many people post there that it will get pushed to the bottom.

Two things that came to my mind immediately and have already been mentioned here...are to contact news stations...see if they will let you talk about what happened on the news...that is a fast way to get the word out. Then start watching birds for sale ads, and answer any that sound like your birds, but don't go to look at them alone.

I just recieved an email from someone who told me this.......

I just posted this on two large bird groups in the phoenix are and surrounding areas, so the word will be getting out fast!!

This is great news! I don't think many people who aren't bird people will be interested in buying these birds, so spreading the word to all the bird people is REALLY good! especially seeing as bird people tend to be very passionate about their birds and also about the poor birds who were ripped from their homes! I still can't believe that they broke in and stole all this stuff in the middle of the day! Didn't anyone see them??? Do you live in the middle of nowhere??? because if you have neighbors, then I think there's a good chance someone may have seen something!

OMG!!! This is horrid and unthinkable!

I agree that getting the word out is NECESSARY. My suggestion to all members is to spread the word about this situation to any relevant boards you may be members of. So we can begin to network. Stormy has a link in her profile to her birds to get a better description. I believe it is is cockatoo, Indian ringneck and quacker that are missing.

I also agree that Craig's list etc. is necessary to scour as well as informing local rescues and media. Of course Parrot 911 is essential.

Let's all pray for these birdies who are obviously terrified where ever they are and have a horrified fidma!

FuzzyAga
06-02-2009, 01:09 AM
What a calamity! :(:very_sad: Oh, everybody suffers here. Poor fids. Hugs to you.

I will check the pets for sale section of our local newpaper (San Diego, CA) starting tomorrow. Also, I will call my vet and ask them if anybody contacted them about some birds (a Goffen, a Quaker, and an IRN) for sale and alert them that they are stolen birds.

I know it doesn't help you now, but some thieves target companion birds so the advice is to be very low-keyed about the existence of your birds so you don't call attention to them. Take special care if your aviary is outside. Also, have excellent locks. Buy an alarm monitoring service. It's a rotten world we live in when thieves take your pets.

I know it's a horrible feeling to be robbed, but it must be a wrenching feeling when your beloved fids are also taken.

Hugs to you.

Jan,
I'm so very sorry to hear that your precious babies have been stolen! This has always been my greatest fear!!!

You've been given excellent advice here and bless all of you for the help you are giving here. In addition to everything else, make sure you file a report with the police. Birds are considered "property" here in FL so police reports are nothing more than a formality, but it needs to be done just in case you need that report should your birds be found/recovered.

Here is a link to one of the best sites I've been able to find regarding bird theft: http://www.birdtheft.org/

It's spreading for sure.....but somehow knowing how you must be feeling, it just feels like it's never enough!!! Scream it from the rooftops! You just have to get these precious birds back home! I see that you haven't been back and I imagine that you are probably a mess and not even thinking clearly.....it's hard to think when something like this happens. Remember though....you have ALOT of people on your side and ALOT of thoughts and prayers and these people REALLY care SO much for what you are going through and your birds are going through. It just HAS to make a difference that ALL of these bird people are out there.....looking out for you and your birds! These people who did this just HAVE to be found and your birds returned back to their loving home! We'll all be here waiting to hear any updates.

Not ONLY are these JUST pets that were stolen.....these birds need a different kind of care than dogs and cats do.....and there are so many things that can harm them! It's just a whole different thing when a bird is stolen......birds are intelligent and know when it's a stranger and someone has bad intentions towards them.....dogs don't always know that! Parrots are very aware and will freak out and it will affect them SO much more....the time spent away from away, they may not eat.....sleep....it is SO much more important when it comes to birds that they get found asap! THIS is why news stations would be such a huge help! One of them just HAS to be sympathetic to your story......come on Jan.....we want to see you on the evening news! She's probably busy out there with flyers today so I'm not surprised we haven't heard from her.
Everyone out there who feels helpless and wants to do what they can to help......email friends and family.....especially people you know with birds....those people may know someone in the area where these birds were stolen.......just write in the email.....if you know anyone in that area, please spread the word to them.....that is what I did.
Also.....you can look through adds from places like craigslist in the whole state of Arizona in the pets section......local news stations in that area are listed online if you google them.....they always have a place to contact them and some even give emails and want stories and news.....you can send them an email asking them to please help Jan and include her craigslist add so they can contact her. I'm sure she's probably doing these things herself right now, but with ALl of our help.....something has to end up helping somehow!

Hi Jan, I hope that the new day has brought new hope. There are so many people all over the bird loving world helping to find your babies...

A few suggestions that haven't been mentioned on here, but that were brought to my attention through my handfeeders' mailing list is to alert the AZ-MEX border and find out if you can e-mail or fax them photos of the missing birds. Also to look up bird expos, and flea markets in your area and though it may be tough to look everywhere, even yard sales.

Hey guys im so sorry i havent updated. Its been rough. Ive had so many people calling me that i dont even know, running around like a nut with flyers. Its been one heck of a day.

Yes the news took my story. My mother in law works WONDERS let me tell you. Ill be airing in a couple of hours. Right now they only have a pic, but later theyll have the video on myfoxphoenix.com. Parrot911 also wrote me and said they have it on their front page.

I have MANY people checking craiglist, hoobly, kijiji, etc and not just in arizona, all over. Theres a local birdmart here sunday that me and my friend will be going to because someone thinks its too coincidental that they stole them right before it. The word is spreading fast, and i can only pray someone recognizes them and returns them home.

Yes they are my family. My KIDS. They were ripped right from their cages..Mika was stolen WITH his. i could care less about the electronics, but how low do you go to steal someones heart. Ive got an add in the local paper coming out Thursday because they have a 2 day gap for some reason.

Ive had so many people messaging me birds for sale, and i just cant tell if theyre mine. I dont think i will know unless i see them in person, a pic is so hard. Heres my craigslist add http://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/pet/1200699675.html

PLEASE feel free to copy and paste it ANYWHERE!!! Even if ive posted it there already. I just pray these bastards dont get away with this and i get my babies home safe and sound!

Jan,
The ideal scenario would be for you to get your birds back quickly. Hopefully, it will happen. However, don't give up searching if that doesn't happen. I've followed stories where it has taken quite some time for birds to find their way home. You have to believe that they will come back.

I would definitely check out the bird show and make sure you are there early. Most of the best birds are gone within the first 30 - 60 minutes. If you've officially filed a police report, you may find yourself having to buy back your own bird and then file charges against the vendor for selling stolen property!

Enko_chan
06-02-2009, 07:46 PM
As Linda said, there is likely to be some complexity in the situation once you get the birds back, and it may end up costing you money. It is a difficult thing to decide upon, but I wanted to point out that in such situations, sometimes offering a reward can help bring information from places that otherwise it would never come. I, for one, would be happy to make a small donation toward a reward for information leading to their safe return. After the birds are returned would be the time to find out who took the birds and how they changed hands to return to you. I would like to see the people who did this answer for it, but the most important thing is that your birds make it back home.

I know Linda. It just makes me sick to my stomach wondering how they are. I know Jaden, he wont eat. **** just cry. Hes the one im worried most about. And poor Bailey finally trusts someone (me) just to be ripped out of her home. Im not sure what Mika is thinking. Ive just been in such a daze. I will NEVER give up. I will their cages untouched until they return

Jan. ..... One other website worth a mention here is TARA. http://www.tarafoundation.com/lost&found.html They also have a wonderful LINKS PAGE .... Regardless of the circumstances surrounding the loss of a parrot, due to the relatively high volume of these type cases, its helps having good resources we can at least share with others who may also find themselves missing loved ones.

Another thought to keep in mind, is because the internet nowadays covers such a large audience, the possibility that whoever has them may find themselves somewhat limited towards the prospect of a quick and easy sale. Should they ultimately decide to turn them loose, there is a likelyhood someone may yet recover and provide them a home. .... None the less, i'm praying that despite whatever hardships these thieves may have faced in life, they manage to find it in their heart to reunite you and your precious fids. Please take care and keep us posted.

How terrible! I think you should call the local media. Someone around me had a duck stolen out of her yard and it was all over the news. I am sure someone had to have heard birds in a house or apartment that they hadn't before and could call a tip line.

I too would chip in for a reward. How awful!

I am praying they come back to you. Best of Luck!

I have not had enough time lately to visit this forum :( but my friend forwarded your post to me and when I started reading it, I just could not believe my eyes.

I am soooo very sorry. I don't even know what else to say except that I too will think about you and your fids and pray for their safe return home.

Michael recommended a good site (911 Parrot Alert).

A few months ago, our green-cheek conure took off trying to follow me ... outside while I was taking our dog out. :omg: He was gone 'only' one day but I went through one of the worst times in my life, so I can't even imagine what you must be going through with several fids missing/stolen.

A teenage boy that lives in our neighborhood found our GCC, saw a flyer, and promptly contacted us. He did not want a reward but we insisted. Money did not matter to us in that case.

So please don't give up. Involve as many people in the search of your birds as possible. Post flyers w/in a mile radius first. Then post more flyers w/in a 2-mile radius, cover ALL pet stores and vet clinics in your area, feed supply stores, and any places they will allow you to post a flyer (stores, gas stations, dry cleaners, fast food restaurants, etc).

To me it is obvious that those nasty to the bone people took most valuable items from your home to sell it and get cash. For this reason, I'd ask everyone you can (family, friends) to help you in checking all the websites, newspapers, bird forums that allow rehoming ads. If those robbers need fast cash, they might try to sell your birds (gosh, so sad) locally.

I have read that flyers are the most effective while trying to locate a lost pet. Not sure which method is the most effective in case of a robbery.

Please get some rest if possible.

Could we see the pictures of your stolen birds, please, so we know what to look for?
(Edit: just saw a link to your CL post and saw their pics).

Are your birds banded?

I can't believe that none of your neighbors noticed anything unusal going on since it happened during the day. :(

Has anyone contated the Arizona Exotic Bird Rescue?

http://www.arizonaexoticbirdrescue.org/

I'll email them today if they haven't already been notified.

I too would be willing to contribute to a fund. We could easily set up a paypal donation account.

Hey guys just wanted to check in.

First off i wanted to thank everyone for all they are doing. My phone hasnt stopped since this all started with people calling, texting, emailing. Everyone has been so supportive and helpful. If i dont get back to you i will try..things have just been crazy here..its like a complete nightmare. I cant believe how everyone is pulling thru, im just so happy that its spreading like it is.

Victoria is right, at the moment, i DONT have the funds to offer. My birds mean the world to me, but they also hit us at an extremely bad time. Well just have to let it play out and let it go from here for now. I could never ask any of you for a donation. You are all helping so much as it is and i am very thankful for it.

I also had another news station call today. Unfortunately i work ALL day today, so hes going to see if someone else can do it tomorrow.

Im trying to hold it together. I havent been able to eat (my husbands been trying really hard to force me) but im just so sick to my stomach i havent had the appetite. And sleep...forget that. I just want this nightmare to be over and have my babies safe at home :(

Stormy--

I know you are going through an incredibly stressful firestorm right now, but you must maintain your health. Please think seriously about this. Eat, even if it's soup. Do listen to your husband.

As for sleep, please don't go sleepless for any length of time as there are valid reasons your body and brain must sleep.

Prayers to you.

I know how hard it is - I've made myself sick from lack of self-care over less...

but the best thing you can do for your fids right now is to stay healthy and strong as possible. You'll want to keep a clear head, and lack of food and sleep will only make you feel worse. The longer you go without eating and sleeping, the worse you're going to feel, the more cloudy your judgment will become. Please take care of yourself.

You and your flock have been in my thoughts and prayers constantly.

UPDATE!!! I think weve found Jaden!!!! I had a lady call me today saying she bought a "white bird" in a park a bit from here yesterday night. Some guy was selling him in a cage. Didnt have any other bird. Well she gave it to her mom for her bday, and her sister tells her..hey..that bird was on TV!!

She hasnt told her mom yet, so shes going to have to break the news because she said her moms kinda attached to him. She also owns other large birds. She gets off at work tomorrow at 4..and im going to meet her somewhere other than our houses to see. Im shaking guys..i really hope its him!!!!!

Hi, Omg that's great! I am praying that it's your Jaden. Hopefully the woman that received this bird will understand, and since she has birds herself she should. Let's just hope she does the right thing here. Also, just be careful and do what you need to do to get your baby back without "playing/tipping your hand". Be agreeable, smile, do whatever you need to do. If you think there is anything suspicious make a mental note of it and report it after you get your baby back. Don't make accusations, don't ask too many questions. If you are able, get license plate info, address, phone number, etc, all info you can to forward it on to law enforcement. Please let us know what happens! You will need to keep your cool at all times. I know you can do this so you can get your Jaden home safely!

How did she know the bird was in the park for sale? Did the guy just stand there in the park trying to sell it off? I was just curious because if she had gotten into contact with him in some other way you might be able to better pinpoint how he's 'advertising'.

Hopefully she can remember some details about the guy, if it is indeed your bird. It might really help if people know who to look for.

Oh gosh, I really hope it's your baby! I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to find out.

This is probably obvious, but If it turns out to be him, ABSOLUTELY put a news story out right away about the place he was bought from... as the others may have been sold in the same manner, imploring, begging people who bought them to return them to you.

And be careful. Even if the person seems kind for their honesty, don't go alone to look at the birds. This person claims to have bought a bird from someone (presumably a stranger) in a park. That alone sounds fishy enough. If I brought my mother a bird I bought in a park as a gift, she'd call the police and make me tell them what I'd done! Dieflying absolutely has a point- this person may be able to help you find the other birds, depending on what she knows. Or may possibly know the people who stole them- though she may not have known he was stolen at the time when she bought him. They may very well be innocent and are attempting to rectify a mistake, and I hope with all my heart that's true. Still, be extra careful.

For what it is worth, I pray that this bird is Jaden and that your reunion will come off without a hitch.

...and please, please, please keep yourself safe.

Good Luck. I hope this is Jayden. Cautious optimism is a good place to be in these situations.

I just wanted to add that while you have said you don't want people's money. I strongly urge you setting up a fund people can donate to. Money talks in these situations and you may have to at least pay the lady for what she paid if this is Jayden, pay ransom for your other birds, or offer money to find out information. If people know money is available they may be more willing to give you information on your birds. Please understand, that many of us, and others out there, are emotionally invested in this situation and would love to be able to do something help. It could be a situation where the money can be returned if it's not needed.

It may seem overbearing but I too think it would be a good idea to take a police officer - than people know you are serious and that this is something you aren't taking lightly (Not that you are!). I hope this lady really does the right thing if it IS Jaden and gives him back to you. Someone who has birds MUST know what that pain is like to lose a bird? Do you know how much he was sold to her for???? This could be a huge break in the case - which is wonderful! Be careful this afternoon & definitely have someone with you (male for sure). Good luck, I cant WAIT to hear what happens!!

I agree with everyone. We are ALL emotionally invested. This could have happened to any of us. If you can set up a paypal account, or if you have one already, we can donate directly.

I think taking a cop (if you can) would be a great idea. Too bad I don't live closer. I have 3 friends (LARGE guys) who are law enforcement officers.

Taking a police officer would be a very good idea, I've known some people who have had problems with horses being in the wrong hands and etc. and and officer should escort you and help you in to get your bird back if you need it, also they really should be talking to these people as part as their investigation into the theft, as a side note, who in the h*** thinks that buying a random bird off of some guy in a park is at all smart and would even consider that it was at all legit.

LovelySydney
06-04-2009, 12:41 PM
IMO, the minute I saw someone selling a bird in the park I would start to wonder - ESPECIALLY if I had just seen all over the news and all over the neighborhoods that a bird JUST LIKE THAT was recently stolen. I hope the person who bought the bird will be able to provide some information as to why and how this happened (buying the bird I mean). It definitely could lead to who did this and hopefully they can be brought to justice.

I would definitely contact the police regarding the meeting and let them decide the best course of action. It is a good idea to take a male friend along but I would also have someone else in the distance watching with cellphone (and camera) in hand just in case and to watch and can alert you to any suspicious behavior.

I would also reiterate that you want to be as cooperative (no accusations, etc) as possible until you are back in possession of your bird. I'm sure law enforcement will also be helpful with this type of information as well. Just my :2cents:

Breaks my heart to see poor Jaden so upset. Thank goodness the two of you can be together now.

I am hoping that the person or people who did this to your flock will be caught, but even if they aren't, there is little doubt that the publicity concerning your birds did not reach them. Not to say that there is ANY EXCUSE for doing this sort of thing, but unfortunately, most people who do things like this are in a very pathetic, miserable and desperate position, and feel very badly about the things they are compelled to do for one reason or another. I am hoping that they are aware of how much pain this has caused you and your birds and that the guilt of it alone will keep them from doing it again. Perhaps that is too much to hope, but at the very least, they most likely found that it is difficult to sell a stolen bird when so many of their possible outlets are being watched. Even in the event that the people who did this are truly heartless, I sincerely hope that the attention this situation got, alone, will make any thief think twice before doing something like this again.

I know you'll give them anyhow, but dedicate a few of your hugs and kisses to Jaden from me.

I am so very very happy that you got your Jaden back, but tears are streaming down my face after watching that video. :very_sad: My heart just broke watching that baby and I felt his pain. :very_sad::very_sad::very_sad:

I agree with Elle, and would take him to see a vet, but perhaps you should wait a day or two for his initial trauma to recede-once he realizes he is back home and safe again with you. I worry that the stress of seeing a vet immediately might make him worse? I'm sure there are more knowledgeable people here who would know best about that.

I am continuing to pray that you are reunited with your other two babies, and am a firm believer of Karma, and know in my heart of hearts that whomever did this, they will pay dearly in the end, wheather they are caught or not. What goes around comes around.

Please give Jaden an enormous kiss from me, and scritches. Lots of scritches

I worry that the stress of seeing a vet immediately might make him worse?
That's a HUGE concern, especially if he's not familiar with the vet! Cockatoos are second in intelligence only to African Greys and he's definitely been very traumatized by whatever has happened. If you have a good relationship with your avian vet, you may want to call him and talk about what course of action, if any, might be needed. I have never seen or heard a cockatoo cry before and it just broke my heart to think about what might have caused this kind of reaction.

If the individual/individuals are found who did this, I would press charges to the fullest extent of legal limits. Life may not be easy right now, but nothing, absolutely nothing, can justify what's happened to your beloved fids.

Was the lady you recovered him from nice? Any responsible bird lover would want to return a bird to it's owner when they learned it was stolen from it's home.

The video you posted is so sad and made me cry to see Jaden so terribly upset. It is one thing to hear about it, but to see him crying like that and snuggling up to you made it very clear what an ordeal he has been through.

Something came to mind... usually it would be the first thing I'd think of, but with all that is happening...

Jaden was in contact with other birds, or at least in the same room as. His stress may also have made it more likely for him to pick something up. I do not mean to worry you any more than you already are, but I would keep Jaden separate from the other birds and keep a close eye on him. I think bringing him to the vet would result in more stress. Since the cause of his present state is stress, it seems like so long as you can get nutrients and fluids into him and comfort him, unless it continues or it seems like something else is wrong, the state is prolonged or he doesn't start eating/refuses formula. Nutrilyte or pedialyte may help to get some nutrients & electrolytes into him, too.

You probably have already seen to it, and don't need my :2cents: but I wanted to recommend that you keep Jaden away from the other birds for a while, for their safety.

Love & Hugs & Prayers for you and Jaden, and Prayers for the safe return of Mika and Bailey.

I hope Jayden is doing better this morning. I just wanted to add another suggestion. It might be a good idea to put posters around the park where Jayden was sold to see if anything pops up about Mika and Bailey. I would make a new poster offering a reward for information leading to their return NO QUESTIONS ASKED. It may be with a reward that the very people who stole the birds will lead you to them for cash. I know a lot of people have strong feelings about who stole these birds, but that is secondary to getting your other two birds back.

Jayden remains in all our thoughts.

I, too, was going to suggest taking him to the vet. I didn't because I thought about how traumatized he already is. Still, his health is more important than anything, and it's probably worth taking him in for a check up. Or maybe you could see if your avian vet would do a house call? It wouldn't hurt to ask. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you find your other two babies soon.

Thank god Jaden is home! .......... Hopefully this woman can provide some information about the individuals she obtained him from. Afterall, surely she must remember something about the person/or persons who offered his sale. I must add, the video was extremely heart wrenching. Thankfully though, because Jaden's the type of species that would have likely suffered the most trauma, he's now safely home with his loving family.

For Mika and Bailey......Prayers that somehow someway they manage to follow the same course back home where they belong. Lets all keep up the vigil!

Hi Jan--How is your sweet Jaden today? I am continuing to pray for Mika and Bailey. I hope you get all of your babies back home together soon. I so hope Jaden is feeling better and is getting a sense of security back now that he has been wrapped in your love all night. I am here thinking of you and your sweet babies!!

Eagerly waiting to hear how Jaden is today. And praying that is is better than yesterday. My heart still hurts for his obvious distress....

Hey guys im sorry for the overdue update. Things have been crazy today. We got blinds installed on everything, backdoor is being replaced sometime this week.

Jaden is doing MUCH better. As soon as Eric came home the crying stopped. He came with us everywhere. He ate NONE STOP. He ate seeds, he ate his veggies, he ate pasta..my god. Hes usually such a picky eater but not last night. Then I went to get a drink and left him on my bed and i hear him squak. So i figure hes calling for me, and i go running back to the bedroom..and what do i see? Him hopping ALL over the bed. Moving his head back and forth DANCING, jumping, bobbing his whole body up and down..ive NEVER seen him like that. He was so happy! We moved his sleeper cage in the bedroom. We covered him and he didnt make a sound (keep in mind he used to scream for a half hour every night). Then this morning, i knew he was up cuz i could here him russling..but he didnt make a peep. So i uncovered him, gave him comfort feedings, and veggies. He ate both. We had to leave during the day, and he didnt yell when we left...and didnt scream when we got home (which is unusual). As a matter of fact, instead of waiting by his door like he usually does, he watched from the back of the cage until he saw me and Eric walk thru the door, then ran to his cage door to be let out.

The vet actually took him in TODAY. The moment they heard he was back she said i can get him in right now. (otherwise i wouldve had to wait a bit). He acted great at the vet. And was soo good. He is now also microchipped and didnt scream or put up a fight. He even went to the vet afterwards and was okay with it.

Overall hes almost back to normal. Still a little whiney...VERY quiet. But other than that hes doing much much better. Oh, and hes been on a shredding spree!! Paper, cardboard, popsicle sticks, you name it!

Jan, I'm so sorry Jaden was so traumatized. But glad that you got him back!

That is such a sad video. Please pardon me for bringing up an idea at such a time, but you could use this video to your advantage to try to get the other two birds back. This news is still hot, and you must stay on it. Your contact at the news is your best lead IMHO. Keep hammering this theft home to the widest audience!

Perhaps you should send that video to the news and if it's aired, the public will see how terrible this type of crime is, how deeply it affects a bird, (I'm sure many think, "it's just a bird") then you would have the sympathy of many more people.

I'm sure the news person can provide the angle, or angles. It's an animal story, it ended happily for this one bird, although with hard consequences, and it has heart-rending images. Sorry to be so blunt in your time of pain; I'm only thinking of you and Jaden. If Jaden's ordeal is to mean something, then the least it should do is raise the awareness level, people's perception of the pain animals can go through when they are stolen, especially birds. The thieves would also know that bird owners try their darndest to get their fids back!

Hold Jaden close and continue to give him small formula feedings, as I see that it comforts him. He must get liquids. Poor baby.

I'm sooooo glad Jaden has bounced back. It sounds like he is as glad to be home as you are to have him home. How about a video of the "recovered" recovered bird? I'm still praying for the other two....

I agree that a follow up story, with video of the crying Jaden, followed by the bed bouncing Jaden, would be a marvelous way to educate the ignorant about just how smart, and sentient, a "bird brain" is! The TV news should gobble up such a story.

SO glad Jaden is snapping back, with some behavior modification, seems like, for the better, to boot! Actually, in some ways, he sounds like a better behaved birdie! Getting a taste of life on the other side of the tracks gave him an awareness of how good his life with you really was, I take it.

He's not as trusting as before, if he's watching you from the back of the cage before he comes to you. That's OK, since he comes to you--definitely trusts you! :) Does he love Eric?

Your description of the pure joy of Jaden bouncing on the bed was a priceless image. Sorry you didn't video it--his delight would have scrubbed the sad image of Jaden's pain out of my mind.

Well, he's home now. Hoorah! I'm enjoying this news.

Hooray!! I am so so so happy to hear that Jaden is feeling better today, and that you got him into the vets and got him microchipped!

Re: microchipping- how does that work? I've heard of it, but never given it much thought, and haven't researched. I would start a new thread for this, but I feel it is relevant to the subject.

I agree with Fuzzy about airing the video of Jaden. It tore my heart out, and I'm sure it would do the same for anyone who, like Fuzzy said, is thinking "they're just birds"... I I had wanted to ask your permission to forward the link to your video to the people who have been helping me to help you find your birds. I did not want to do so without your permission.

Still praying that we hear from Bailey and Mika ASAP.

Hi Jan--I was soooo glad to read that Jaden is doing so much better and eating and drinking again!! Thank God it seems like he is going to be ok and has still got his spirit!! i agree with the others...that video of Jaden would be great to share with your news contact. If anybody is watching who knows anything about your other babies...just maybe it will stir them to action!! I don't know how anyone who knows the story could watch that video and not have their hearts ripped out over it.
I am just glad that Jaden is ok!! Give him extra hugs from me...ok?

Hi Jan,
I'm so very glad to hear that Jaden is doing so much better! One thing about Cockatoos. When they are happy, they are HAPPY and the whole world knows about it!!

I gotta agree with the others about the video. You want to get the entire city of Phoenix looking for Mika and Bailey? Let the media air that video! The more publicity about this, the better!

Ive did call the news station and left a message but no reply. Its weird. I have alot of ppl from other forums writing them and i think one even sent that video. Havent heard anything tho. Its a heartbreaking video. No animal should be that misserable. Jaden is so sensitive, they really have no idea the scar they have left.

Will all the petshops in your area post a Lost photo of Mika and Bailey?

I was hoping the ladys description might help find the thieves.

I am glad Jayden is feeling better.

One thing I thought of also...I would bet that Mika and Bailey are in the Phoenix area still. If this guy was selling Jaden in a park, this is no bigtime operation...this is a drug addict looking for a quick buck. I would bet my next paycheck on that. Anyway--my whole point is that he isn't going out of the phoenix area to try to sell your birds...it's too much bother. He just wants to get what money he can for his next fix. And I bet it's likely that you will get Mika and Bailey back...especially if you can get the news station to run that video.
Maybe we all here on the forum need to flood that news station with calls, asking them to do a follow up, until somebody there listens.
Did you ever find out how much that lady had to pay for Jaden?
Sending more hugs to you from MN!!

Im a little slow..what do you mean outlets? are you talking about the news station that did my video? It was posted on myfoxphoenix.com..im sure theres contact information there. They did get alot of letters and calls from other ppl, but still nothing.

He has been good to Eric, but he wants MOM. Hes been my shadow. Today hes doing alot better. Hes been extremely destructive..i mean wow. I know Toos chew, but hes just on a spree..more than usual. Ive gone thru 4 shirts that hes just completely reduced to rags.

We went to the birdmart today "just in case" but no avail. All babies and breeders. I wish i wouldve brought more money. I never attended one, but wow were there stuff EVER cheap!! I did manage to scrape up 10 bucks and get him a nice toy full of wood. From the looks of it it should be gone in about an hour.. lol

Usually i have to hang it on his cage for a week before he touches it..nope. He ran right to it almost. Crazy.

Hes definately a changed bird. But hes still my boy. I mean besides the whines, it almost seems like hes matured a bit. It sounds strange to explain.

I strongly believe Mika and Bailey are still in Phoenix. I also think theyve already been sold. I hope whoever has them sees that they are stolen and are honest enough to give them back. My mom thinks Bailey will come home soon..but she says "Mika is just so cute and outgoing, he talks and dances..im sorry but i think someone might just keep him and refuse to give him back" And that really scares me because i hope thats not that case.

My biggest fear was they were driven to Mexico. But now that i know theyre here ill continue to search. The part that scared me the most, was when i went to get Jaden, the cop told me that because Jaden had no physical evidence (band, microchip, tattoo) that if this girl didnt htink he was mine, they couldnt make her give him back. I worry about this with my other 2.

Jan. Does this girl remember anything regarding the person who sold Jaden?........I'm sorry to hear the "cops" felt it was necessary to share the negative advice. Most important, is that everyone followed through with Jadens return, as it is those type particulars that are more useful in helping to complete Bailey's and Mika's safe return.

I firmly believe should someone suddenly find themselve's a beautiful parrot, whether dancing or not, once they found out they may have received it under false pretense, there's a good chance their conscience will come into play. Therefore, the real problem lies in exposing this news onto them, as its doubtful very many parrots matching Bailey's and Mika's description are going to be traded back and forth in the weeks or months to come. Try to stay positive!..........Prayers.

I'm sorry to hear the "cops" felt it was necessary to share the negative advice.
Unfortunately, that's the bottom line truth, as birds are considered property. If you have no rock solid evidence that the bird in question is truly yours, you won't get it back unless the person who has possession of the bird is feeling benevolent and is willing to return the bird. That's how my daughter, Jennifer, lost her Lacewing Lutino Tiel. It's really best to be aware of what could happen than to be broadsided when it happens. You can trust it's better to know ahead of time than to find out on the spot.

I will continue to say prayers that Bailey and Mika are found and come home. It may not happen immediately but I think you'll see them again.

She did get a description, but that was about it. She described him as tall, black, and husky. Well dressed. She said he was wearing all Jordans (brand name?) and he spoke like he was educated. Not like, thuggish or anything. But i mean, thatll only get us so far

This is the reason that I have left my banded birds banded! When I took Ivy to the vet, she asked me if I wanted her band taken off and I said no! Woody, my normal grey tiel is also banded.....which is good because normal greys all look so much alike! Pip and Boss are not banded, but also unlikely birds to be stolen, and even if they got outside, Pip's colorings aren't exactly the most common, Boss is lutino....kinda common, but I really feel that I'd know it's her if she ever got away on me.

ok, so let's say that someone bought bailey and mika. we all know mika's beak is not straight and needs to be trimmed. is it possible that whoever has him will take him to the vet? assuming that they would, i don't know if beak trims are something one can do at home or not. i don't know, but have you posted up signs at animal clinics/hospitals? i know phoenix is a big city to cover, but maybe someone there might have seen them if they were to come in for a visit, again, assuming that whoever has them will bring them in.

Do your local grocery stores have a bulletin board up front?Maybe you can put up a poster there and it would be seen by more people. Most grocery stores have a section for pets and sell cruddy brands of bird seed.Just a thought since maybe whoever has your bird isn't familiar with the proper care they need and may not be going to the pet shop for seed and such.

Not necessarily. Drug money can be used to purchase the nicer things or what those doing drugs consider "nicer."

And sadly, not all thieves are addicts or people in desperate situations... some are simply lazy jerks that can't hold a job yet still feel the need to wear and drive status symbols... that money has to come from somewhere.

I'll keep those prayers for Mika and Bailey coming, and I've written a letter to My Fox.
