I have a couple of Peachfaced Lovebirds for more than one year.
75% of times we are preparing to leave from house, they seem to understand that even if they do not see us, even if they don't hear any sound related to "leaving from the house"
The birds scream at least 10 minutes before we leave leave from home.
Do they communicate with us in any ways? Do they have special senses?
Does the human body "transmit" anything which these birds understand it while humans don't even notice that?

It's very strange. Anyone observed that?

thank you for any answers

I remember watching a tv show about dogs and separation anxiety. Because when we leave the house, we will do routine things.

For me, sitting own to put my shoes on, going towards the door, getting your keys.
For Elmo my lovebird, when she hears the keys rattling she will fly over to me straight away. I know that she knows that I'm leaving.

It's all routine.

Your fids know your signals and cues for when you are leaving.

Alas, the way the dog people solved it was. Making them immured to it. So over the days and weeks. constantly go to the door, and do all of your cue signals that you do. Leave and then come back so they realise that when you leave it isn't a bad thing and that you are coming back.

hello and thank you for your answer. that is not exactly what I am talking about.
we do not make any noise indicating we are going out.
Let's say we decide at 10:30 to go out for shopping at 10:45. just by walking in the house as we normally do, they start screaming before we leave and without seeing us.
They don't scream like that if they just hear us walking in the house if we are not going to leave.

maybe you have psychic birds! lol I have no idea why they are reacting that way, it could just be a means of communicating only because they cannot see you but know you are there and because you arent interacting with them they sense that you are leaving because it has happened before. Momo - My dogs go CRAZY if I go to put my shoes on, they know that Im going outside & they want to go - NOW!! = )

My dog is definitely psychic when it comes to walks or going in the car.

She gets excited before I even put my shoes on or get her leash.

All I have to do is think about it, and she knows. It's strange and fascinating.

My birds, too, seem to know when I am leaving. I did figure out what cues my Bo was reading. He would dive into my shirt & run around to the back of my bra, where I couldn't reach him, just before I was about to put him in the cage to go out. So I stated paying attention to what gave him his "clue". If I picked up my keys, my purse, turned off the T.V, put on my shoes--any of those things sent him into a "shirt dive". My current birds have a pretty good sense of my routines, too. I think birds, to survive in the wild, have to be able to read subtle cues/warning signs. They just transfer this ability to us & read signs we aren't even aware we are sending. Just my opinion.

Not only are birds very aware of what's going on around them....they have great hearing and even if you think they can't hear something your doing....they may be able to hear it. Also....my Ivy will act differently depending on if you are being firm and serious with her......if you aren't being firm, she'll try to get away with whatever she can, take off on you when you try to pick her up or put her back in her cage.....but if you have a serious attitude with her and and speak firmly, she listens and doesn't try any games....they KNOW even your mood and what they can get away with! Little stinkers! I think they are alot smarter than we give them credit for!

Ya mine get all worked up before I leave too and it drives me crazy lol.Like you I don't have to be in sight for them to know something is going on.You would think it's the end of the world if they see me put my shoes on and it's become a game trying to sneak out of the house unnoticed ... a game I seldom win.

Speaking of senses does anyone else have birds that could predict an earthquake?Back in 1994 when we had the Northridge earthquake in Cali I had been outside in the evening and remember how the sky had a stange hue to it and that there were pretty much no birds outside and that it was eerily quiet. The lovebird I had then had back then had been acting nervous and strange as well prior to the earthquake at 4:30 am.

A few years ago we had an earthquake up here in Alaska and my birds had been acting strangely many hours prior to the earthquake hitting and I had remembered the way my bird acted back during the Cali earthquake and told my boyfriend that I thought we were going to have an earthquake and sure enough we did!

My birds are like little watch dogs who will scream at the top of their lungs before anyone even touches the doorbell.Sometimes the noise drives me crazy and other times it's a blessing =)

I think most animals have keener senses than we do, and without a doubt can sense impending natural disasters.

I believe that there were very few animals killed when that devastating Tsunami hit a couple of years ago, because they all sensed the seizmic activity and headed out of the danger zone.

I wish humans were more in-tune with their "inner voices", as I think we all have capabilities like this that we deny or tell ourselves are just coincidences...

Funny thing about earthquakes...when I was younger, I'd wake up about 15-seconds before an earthquake hit. Now, I'm lucky if I get a 2-second warning!

Once, we were vacationing in Tokyo, Japan, (land of earthquakes) and it happened there. I was in my hotel bed, and I popped awake, not knowing why, but with a feeling of foreboding. The Northridge quake, which was felt in San Diego, (a long one, that!) I woke up about 10-seconds before it hit. Oddly, my then 12-year-old cat slept through it. He woke up only after I jumped out of bed! He was so calm.

There are many little quakes (in this area) that I wake up to--could be I respond to the low-level noise--I don't know. These little 3-and-4-Richters are easy to handle but the 5s that are sometimes accompanied by noise (if you've never heard two continental plates snapping/grating together, you're missing out on a gut-curdling experience. It's like Earth took a deep breath and roared.) are difficult. That's when I vow I'm moving out of southern California!

So far, my two lovies do not respond to these little quakes. Maybe their response is too subtle for me to comprehend. I would expect squawking, or something noisey. It might be a different reaction with quakes that are 6 and higher. I hope I never find out. Actually, one would have to be dead not to react to this level of earth activity.

I agree about their hearing. It's really impressive.
sometimes in the middle of the night, they hear us caughing at the other side of the house and we hear them whistling a couple of times.
