Today has been kind of a laid back day, as it's been raining (rather I should say storming) outside all day. It's also been a day of curiosity for the flock.
I was giving out almonds and pistachios this afternoon when Magellan and her mate started staring intently at what I had in the yellow Tupperware canister. Now mind you, she's seen that canister I don't know how many times and could have cared less but today it caught her eye. Well, I figured since all I had in there were natural unshelled almonds, I would give her one and see what she would do with it. If her lovie beak manages to chew through the shell, there's a very healthy treat inside. Magellan and her mate have been messing around with the almond and the shell is coming off, slowly but surely. However, Magellan, being a hen, hasn't quite decided if she would rather chew on the shell or sit on the whole thing! :rofl:Cleo and Sunni got an almond and a pistachio in their food dish and they are working on them.
Later on, I was getting ready to feed my two babies when Ginger came over to see what was going on. She watches everyone else devour the remains of the formula so she decided to make an appearance to partake of what was left. Surprised the living daylights out of me, as I KNOW Ginger is NOT hand fed! :lol Well, I offered her the syringe and she surprised me by tasting the formula. I didn't get a feeding response but she was just curious as to what everyone else was getting that they obviously liked since they all come back each time I hand feed....... Leave it to a Grey!
Added: I gave Bird Bird a pistachio and she grabbed it quite eagerly! Both she and Toolie have reputations around here about eating just about anything you offer them! Bird Bird sure enjoyed the pistachio, even managed to eat it without removing either the top or bottom shells. (The one I gave was a split open one!) :lol
