I moved Oliver out of the HQ cage and into a smaller cage that would be fit for a cockatiel. It's a very large cage for him still but the changes in him are incredible. I have never seen this little guy be so social and playful!! He is constantly chewing on toys and swinging from things, he's eating veggies again and fruits which he stopped for a long time and he even comes out of his cage and sits on top and plays with some forage toys I have up there. He NEVER came out of the HQ unless I took him out. Its truly amazing! He has been chirping away and seems so much happier.

I guess in his case a larger cage wasn't the best fit for him!! Im very glad that he likes this move but I feel bad he was in the HQ for so long. It really is SUCH a difference. In the HQ he only sat in one corner atop a toy all day long. He only moved to eat. He has all the same toys in this one but he's now playing with them all. I think he feels more secure in this cage. Im so happy for the little guy - his personality is really shining through & its SO adorable:blush:

Cages can play a big part in a bird's life! Even humans have been known to live unhappily in homes they don't like! While smaller may not seem good to us, it's Oliver who needs to be happy. It's quite possible his HQ cage was just SO big, he felt overwhelmed.

Glad the move worked out as well as it did! :)

Good for you to scope out Oliver's problem and solve it! :)

I will tuck this information in my mind because I didn't realize a cage can be too big. Don't be hard on yourself--our communication with our fids is very crude, at best, but you've solved it and Oliver is living better. Celebrate with him because he's celebrating!

That's great news! I had never really thought about a cage being too big, but I guess it makes sense. I feel more comfortable in a cosy little house than in a mansion. Hurray for Ollie! You'll have to post some pictures :)

Elmo is kind of the same..
It took her a long time to warm up to her mansion cage.. even now she isn't really into it like she was her old cages. Just makes me wonder whether to switch them back or not.

I'm glad oliver is feeling nice good in his comfy home :)

Hi!
Could I ask what type of lovebird is Oliver? I think he´s very beautiful :)

Did you put both cages on the same place? I´ve noticed that my lovebirds feel better on a corner ;)

You know what? I just did my monthly scrubbin o'the cage, and I jam packed it full of all of Cherry's toys that I had JUST to see what he would do.

He's in his glories! It's like the less cage space, the better. He's got ladders, 4 perches, swings, 3 water cups, and a plastic chain perch all crammed into his "condo" and he is loving it.

Perhaps it's because there's more "variety" and less space. To me, it would be too crowded, but he likes it. Oh well!

Belenny - Oliver isn't actually a lovebird, he's a parrotlet! I became part of this board as a lovebird owner but lost my two at the end of April due to sudden death. I couldn't leave the board so when I got Oliver, even though he was a parrotlet, I still posted!! I love it here too much to ever leave = )

Oh! That´s because I was conffused!
I didn´t know if it could be a "taranta" (I don´t know how you say it in English) female, but her beak wasn´t red :)

He´s gorgeous, congratulations!

My Benny was also moved to a smaller cage. He was overwhelmed in the big one. We also recently moved his cage from the place it was- about 2 feet from the lovebirds' cage, as we thought he may like it better in the corner, as Beleny said, many birds do- but he apparently considered it the lovebirds' territory. So, with the move to the smaller cage and then the move to the other part of the room we have a very happy, well-behaved parrotlet!
