so oz has gotten into this really weird habit of banging his beak on things including when in the cage he'll run his beak across the bars (almost like a prisoner lol) when he climbs out of his cage he bangs the bars very hard its actually pretty scary to watch it always makes me think he's hurting himself he also does it on me when were just randomly walking around. is this a territorial thing like with cockatiels? i'm just wondering if anyone knows what in the world he's doing. oh and i'm not positive oz is a boy its just what i've always called him.

Both of my lovies--one male & one female--enjoyed beak banging, especially on wooden things that make a resonant sound (empty desk drawers, wooden boxes). And they seemed to love it when I'd repeat their tapping pattern back to them. (I used to worry that maybe I shouldn't, like was this a no-no like back kisses?) Gussie, my green cheeked conure hen, is a regular beak banger. Well, maybe more of a beak tapper. She likes to tap, tap, tap, then sliiiiiiiide her beak on the surface she's on as she runs forward, followed by a few more tap tap taps. I used to wonder if my lovies were checking out the "quality" of the wood in drawers or boxes to see if it was an appropriate nest site. You wouldn't want to build a nest in a rotten tree, would you? Regardless of the meaning, it does seem that they enjoy all the tapping & banging.

Like Gussie, my gcc Chino does the "slide" sometimes when he's walking on something.
My caique is a banger. It's pretty funny, and he seems to think it's great fun.
Sometimes it's followed by regurgitation, so I think it may be related.

Mine bangs when he wants out, or needs fresh water (even though he gets it 6 times a day) or wants a seed change.
I sooo want to find a tiny little metal cup (like Monopoly-piece size) and teach him to bang on the cage with it. HAHAHA!

I don't think I've ever really noticed any beak banging with the lovies....but I have noticed that they all rub their beaks across the bars.
My male cockatiel Woody got his name from his beak banging....he looked like he was immitating a woodpecker and would bang rapidly.

Both Goof and Beeb rub their beaks across their cage bars. Matter of fact, they rub their little beaks on just about anything!....Including me after dinner....:x.....I'm sure sometimes they do this because it just feels good.
I wish eventually they'd both learn to use knapkins. That way their cage bars wouldn't need so much scrubbing...........

my first lovie, Peachy, used to put his beak on the tiles & then slide forward a good yard. then we used to be able to pick him up in 2 hands, kiss the top of his head.. place him on the floor with his beak down & let go.... and then laugh as he'd sliiiiide forward that yard.
sunny likes to bang her beak & head butt us. it's hilarious! although my favorite thing is to take the carpet sweeper out & if sunny is out, she'll follow the sweeper. if i stop the sweeper in front of her, she goes up on her tippy toes, makes like she's going to bow & comes down in "thunk" of a bird beak bangedness. Every. Single. Time! i gotta get it on video. silly lovies!

My parrotlet, and my male lovebird both do this constantly!
Bennu I am sure, does it to make noise and get attention- I think Odinn just enjoys the noise and sensation of it.

Ethel seems to do 'the slide' on her bars when she's bored or waiting to be let out of her cage. Most of the time she's out now so it's a sound not often heard anymore.
