I just wanted to know if anyone knew when i should put these little guys in a "weaning cage"? But when i do im a little concerned about the bottom of the cage. I'm not sure what i should put on the bottom so they dont fall thru and hurt theirselves just for the beginning since its going to be new flooring for them. I know i should put the toys and the foods on the bottom at first and leave the perch low but just dont know when i should start all of this.:omg:

I tend to follow what would happen with the babies if they were with mom and dad. Babies usually don't venture out of the nest until they are 6 weeks old or very close to it. That means my babies are in whatever container I was using until age 6 weeks.
In the weaning cage, I use white paper toweling on the grate until they get used to it. Most will want to return to the container at bedtime and I have no problems with that. It's all about their comfort in a time that's very stressful for them. Perches are low; food/water dishes are on the bottom. My weaning cages are small, as they need to get used to larger, more spacious quarters. :)
