Well, we're back from finishing "the works" at the vet:
Eye swab, crop swab, butt swab--no infections
PBFD, Polyoma, Pstiticosis, DNA--results to be announced.
Weight: 38 grams
Nature: calm.
Diet: is now eating the Roudybush crumble I've been adding to the KayTee Exact pellets. Not interested in millet or fruit yet. But eats just about every time I sit down next to the cage. Obviously a social eater :)

The little trooper's neck feathers hadn't even dried from the blood draw swab before s/he was sitting in the cage, on the counter in the vet's office while I wrote the check :omg:, happily eating away. Still a little warry of me but not flighty when I approach or open the cage. Just retreats to the back with a squawk when I put my hands in the cage. But was preening in the car on the way home from the vet. Also pops a head out of the Cozy Sack like a coo coo clock if I speak outloud.

The lady at the desk put the vet bill (I wasn't protesting it, just cringing a bit) in perspective. "One night in a nice Monterey hotel would cost you more."
She's right. I'll take a lovie over a weekend get-away every time!"

 It was glaringly obvious that there was not one reference to "he" or "she" in your entire post.

Did you have a DNA test done, too?

Wow- 38 gm! It's a mini lovie. That's just over half the size of Jack. Must be so darling.

Oops- just re-read post... I guess there was one mention of he/she. Ok- I'm a dork (I admit it. I've said it more than once, lol)

Not true! You're quite observant. I AM carefully avoiding pronouns so I won't have to get used to one only to have to change it. I've had to change the "initial" pronoun of my last THREE birdies  And yes, I did have a DNA done. These "asexual" references age getting tedious

I kind of wondered myself. ..... But then, why spoil any entertainment that might follow each post. .... After all, tedium does have a certain quality.

Sending a few prayers for your little trooper..........:)

Sometimes knowing the gender is worse! Gem, for instance, (even though he's not a lovebird) acts like he's a nesty hen! All day he bosses his cagemate around and rules the food and snacks with an iron wing. If his cere wasn't turning blue I would swear he's a she!

Are you hoping for a certain gender? Or better yet, what names have you picked out for him/her?

Actually, I fear there is a bit of superstition about not saying "he" or "she", since I'm always wrong. Maybe I should just start saying "she" since it will be easier if this is a boy. I had wanted a hen, when I was planning on having a single lovie. But now that I'm getting a pair, I don't want two hens. So, if this is a hen, I'll have to DNA & wait for results before bringing the new birdie home. If this one is a boy, I can just bring one home & see what I get. "Life is like a box of chocolates....." (I like to create these artificial problems to distract me from real problems

^^ i hear ya on that.... hubby and I still refer to sunnybird as a "she" but sunnybird acts more and more like a boy all the time.
