Tonight Ivy got her foot caught in a curtain. I was not at home, I was at work and my boyfriend had to get her free. He had a really hard time and she was yanking her foot hard to free it and he eventually had to get sissors and cut the curtain to get her foot free. A piece of curtain remained stuck to her foot and she wouldn't let him get it off. I came home to......Ivy hurt her foot and went to her and got the piece of curtain off. All looks fine and she's putting weight on it and not holding the foot up......BUT she walks a bit off and has a hard time climbing. I'm going to see how she does after a good night's sleep.(she has one of those platforms to sleep on so I think she'll be more comfortable with this) She'll be going to the vet at the very least to get her nails clipped as this is what I think a big part of the problem was. She lets me clip her nails, but I can usually only get one or two nails, then she won't sit still anymore. Two of her front nails are getting long. If the foot still bothers her by tomorrow night, I'll have her foot looked at while we're at the vet. I'm thinking her foot will be fine AND hoping!

Its so stressful when these things happen!
Ben's bruise is finally all healed. After a good night's sleep he was fine, I hope its the same for poor Ivy!

I am wondering if you have any of the perches with the rough surfaces for Ivy.
We use them in all of our lovebird cages and it keeps the tips of the nails from being sharp. I don't know if they would work to keep a bigger bird's nails trimmed down but they work great for our lovies.
I've notices that the nails on the babies are really SHARP, and they can sure hang on tight.
I hope Ivy is better this morning.

I don't have any perches like that for Ivy.....but you can be sure I'll be looking for a good one now. I'll put it on the outside of cage since that is where she spends most of her time. I made her an appt. at the vet for Thursday....it was the soonest they could get her in.....by then it will probably be feeling better. This morning she I'm not really seeing any improvement, but I'm thinking at least if she's not holding the foot up, that's a good sign, right? She puts weight on it, but this morning she wasn't wanting to walk around much and wouldn't even go to her morning dishes of food, which kind of worries me. I eventually lured her over with a piece of watermellon and she did fine, but she wasn't wanting to walk across her cage top, over the ladder and up onto the tiel's cage to get her food. She usually runs and acts like she's starving! Everything looks fine, she walks fine, and all appears fine, except for that she doesn't want to walk around too much or climb now. I've kept Pip away from her for now so she can have some peace and rest for that foot. Pip always has her running away from him! I'll give them some short times together this afternoon before I go to work.

She's spunking up a bit this afternoon and has climbed around now, so I'm thinking that foot will be just fine! Still......she has to get her nails trimmed and also maybe her beak. No more curtains in the bird room!
