I looked around for a while cause I thought this had been touched on, and didnt find anything so here we go.

If a lovie starts to treat a toy differently and regurgitates on it, is that something that should be discouraged by removing the toy? Im not talking about an isolated incident, I am speaking of a pattern.

Trix seesm to be treating one toy in each of its cages kinda strange (DAVE AND DITTO: I THINK TRIX IS A GUY).

I dont like it but if its healthy normal behavoir I dont have a problem with it.

What have you done about this kind of thing or what do you have to say about it?

I havenmt seen Trix regurgitate but I do see food residue stuck to the toy in question.

Thanks everybody

Males and females both regurgitate, but males do it more often, I think.

It is normal behavior and shows a touch of extra affection for that toy in particular. All you can do is try to keep it clean so bacteria will not grow there. A trip through the dishwasher usually helps. Not much more you can do.

Perran,
Sometimes Peepo picks a favorite toy to "feed" but she is a fickle little hen and switches to another love after a while. It's rare that she actually regurgitates, usually she just gives it kisses (since she's learned that in context) and rubs her head on it while peeping. I'd say from just watching my birds, males reguritate more often then females - but that is my limited exerience.

BTW, I've not sexed Peepo. She told me she's a hen and I believe her.

Most of my lovies have mates so they don't really give....um...affection to their toys. BUT, Zim and Squeak are both males and they like to do the swishy swishy together on their stuffed bear. This does include some regurgitation but it's all in good fun . I just make sure I throw the bear in the wash when it gets dirty and it's all good.

Perran,

Here's something you can try. Most males have what I call "The Spot". Try rubbing Trixie with your finger from her/his head, down past the nape of his/her neck. This will generally put them in the clicky, clicky, head bobbing mode, and is sometimes started out with a quick wing spread. I have never had Lacey do this, but then again, she is not bonded to me like Lacey.

The affection Trix is showing her toys though is quiet natural, especially without a mate ;)

Ditto does that too. Then he humps his happy hut!

Taking the toy out probably won't do any good. Trixie will just find another favorite. Just keep the toy clean. Unless it becomes excessive and Trix starts losing weight.

BTW, Usually when Ditto realizes the toy isn't eating what he's trying to feed it, he'll eat it back (gross but that's why I have to make sure the toy stays clean).

Hey it's better then him trying to feed me.

Yes...
Most males have what I call "The Spot".

That's just what we need...Perran looking for "The Spot" on Trixie. There ain't no way to get that to sound good, regardless if Trixie is a male or female.

Perran, keep your fingers off that sweet little birdie. Trixie isn't going to appreciate your rubbing her 'spot' as much as you think she might. They have police who protect the innocent from people like that.

Lori....Does Lacey know you spend time feeling around for Bela's spot? The poor girl is having a hard enough time wooing the big guy away from you

LOL,

I haven't touched that spot in months, I swear I haven't  I did find it by accident, and it used to be a funny thing to do, cause all I had to do was rub that one area, and up came the wingies. I have rejected Bela now for a long time, and well, he still hasn't jumped Lacey's bones

I know you have all found that spot on your lovies, so you can all quit acting like I'm the only one that ever rubbed a lovie the wrong way :lol

One of my budgies used to regurgitate on bells that were put in his cage. I'd just have to clean them more often.

He also got REALLY attatched to this one toy - a penguin on wheels - and didn't want anyone going near it. He'd get nippy, and fly after the toy if you took it away. I guess it was just that time of year.
