Junior has been very aggressive lately. I let him out of his cage to fly around and he chomps down on me every time. When he needs to go back in his cage, he flies everywhere and I can't catch him. When I try to get him, he lunges at me and bites me! It is not a nibble...He almost draws blood...it hurts! I couldn't catch him so I had to catch him with a cloth. I put the cloth over him and then picked him up and brought him to his cage but he STILL continued to bite me. Should I just leave him in his cage for a few days? I have no idea why he is acting this way. Any advice would be great. Hopefully when I get him a friend he will be nicer and not so mean.:(

Maybe an "attitude adjustment"....aka wing clip?
And a name change, say "Juniorette"?

I'm waiting for the DNA kit to come then I'll be abled to see if junior is a male or a female. I think a wing clip is a good idea. Junior loves to fly around but it gets to the point where I can't catch him and Junior gets aggressive so...wing clip, here I come!

I would not count on this! The reason Junior bites when you want to put him/her back in the cage is because you want him to do something he doesn't want to do. Biting is the only way he has to tell you that!

I agree that a wing clip may be in order. It doesn't have to be major, just enough to limit flight ability. I would start with 4 flights on each wing and go from there.

Thank you for the information. I don't know how to clip wings so I'll take him in to get them done as soon as I can.

Katelyn,
When you take Junior to have his wings clipped, be very specific as to how you want it done and make sure you watch what the person is doing so that it's done properly! You want to start with the first 4 primary flights on each wing (both wings need to be done, not just one). Many individuals have their own agenda when it comes to how this needs to be done and many do it incorrectly, including veterinarians!!!

You are paying someone to do this and you have the right to have done what you want, not what they want.

A wing clip will work wonders! Just so long as they don't clip too many and Junior has enough flight left to get around safely. I think lovebirds definitely use biting as way of communcating to us that they either don't like something or don't want to do something!!! Only I think maybe sometimes they don't realize just how HARD they bite! Pip is pretty good though most of the time....he'll bite, but not too hard. Ivy uses gentle bites to communicate with me as well, which is fine but as soon as they get too hard, I pick her up and hold her with hands over wings and she hates that! That's MY way of commuicating to her that her bite was too hard and that's not acceptable to me......it works pretty good!
