I saw this question on another board and I was just curious what everyone spends each month. I usually spend under 15 dollars on food, millet and toys. :)

I have 3 lovies and a parrotlet and I don't keep track but I spend quite a bit =p The bird seed is about $6-9 a pound, millet is 3 stalks for a dollar and toys are $4 and up if I buy them from the local pet shop.I live in Alaska and don't have the luxury of free shipping or I'd be buying my stuff elsewhere.I usually fill up my 1.5 gallon container at least 3 times a month ... I sometimes wonder if I should invest in one of those seed savers lol.I also feed my birds fresh veggies and produce up here is a small fortune as well but my birds are worth every penny =) I think they eat better then I do sometimes!

Alaska? It must be beautiful there. I saw an alaskan lovebird breeder and their birds were gorgeous! I want one but it's all the way in Alaska and I'm in California...bit of a distance problem there, lol.

How much do I spend on toys.....hmmm! Just toys? because I see the answer already given put in food and millet as well. I make some of my toys and had bought the toy parts some time ago, so some I make. The only ones I really buy regularly are the shredder pinatas because they destroy those! I don't really find myself spending too much on toys these days for a couple of reasons.....one is because I've accumulated so many of them over the time I've had birds that I really didn't even have to go out and buy any when I brought home my new lovie! I just seem to have tons of them lying around! Of course I did go out and buy some new toys for him....of course! A swing, a cozy hut. I do buy foot toys for Ivy regularly since they seem to occupy her on days when she wants to cling to me or starts screaming....all I have to do is get out that little box of new foot toys and she knows! Those toys only cost me about 15 dollars and I usually buy new ones about once every 1-2 months. I buy fresh millet, two good size bags with about 8 or so millet sprays in a bag and for two bags it's about five dollars. I get that about once a month. For food I don't even want to know how much I spend! I get Ivy her organic nuts and for a small container it's like six bucks! All the veggies and beak appetite, seed, pellets......oh I lose count of how much I spend on food! I'm thinking I don't really want to try to figure that one out!

Lovebird babies? Awwww, my favorite :D. I can't wait to find out if Junior is a boy or girl. I would like Junior to have babies one day. Well, if Junior is a she, I would want to get a lovebird that is a he..then maybe they can have he's AND she's. Confusing? lol

Some of my breeder birds were also from Angelina's Nest in Alaska. They are beautiful birds.

I never keep track of what I spend each month. My bird spending has gone way down since we have all of the cages, seed cups, perches, etc.

I also bought a lot of toy parts so I am making my toys now and recycling a lot of the beads, bells, and acrylic parts.

I buy millet and pellets in bulk and use a seed saver which made a dramatic difference in the amount of pellets and seeds I need to buy. I also buy seeds to sprout in bulk at a health food store.

"I think they eat better then I do sometimes!"

That is so true! I know they eat better than we do ALL the time!!!

I buy them toys every few months. Like they are due for some new toys and more of the old toys, such as shredders, Popsicle sticks, munchie balls, etc... I look for deals. I also save up money specificially for them so when I have a lot, that's when I buy it and start the process all over again. I do have to order toys cuz two of them are turning one in the next month (evolet and jada) and mommy loves to spoil them. I'm getting evie the zsa zsa gabird from Drs foster and smith. She'll love it

Food: $15-$40 ... the bags of pellets & seed, plus fresh food.
Treats: $5-$10
Toys: $5-$30 ... unless I buy a bunch of toy parts, or a gym or something.

This is for four birds.

I don't keep track. ....Especially not toys! ... Regardless though, whatever our two lovies need, they WILL get it. ...The only way I see any financial difficulties, is if they start doing heart or kidney transplants on birds.

Wow, these birds on this board sure are spoiled, lol! I usually give Junior a toilet paper roll once in a while and he likes to play with that and shred it. I also stick paper in his cage and that keeps him entertained for awhile. Thanks for all the responses, I love reading them!

Oh, boy... that's a tough question! I easily spend $1200/year between food, toys and an annual vet exam. Likely more, if I thought about it.

I do think that that I go through less toys with Pickle (brotogeris 'keet) than I did with Beetle (peach-faced lovebird). Beetle was VERY more destructive and loved nothing more than to shred things or gnaw things apart. Pickle does like to destroy things but he takes his time doing so.

Oh my forgot about the vet, add a grand a year just for that not counting emergency visits!
