Hi ya'll,

I've been training my birdie recently to do some tricks. However, I'm beginning to realise that he only does the tricks when he feels like eating, he doesn't really do it when he's full or has just eaten. Anyone else's bird does it this way? I know food is an important stimulus but is there any other way I can get him to do the tricks even when he has eaten? thanks!

When doing trick training, food IS an important incentive but you may have to try substituting praise, too. Instead of offering a treat for each successful trick, try the food reward, say, every other time.

Check up in our In the Media Forum, last sub-forum. There's a video there about some well trained budgies and they do tricks without the food reward. However, a lot of what's at work there is the "follow the leader" behavior. The budgie in front of me climbed up the ladder, so I, as the next budgie in line, will do the same thing.
