Hi guys,

Question regarding lovies and sharing...

As you might remember I have one peach faced totally tame female (Pearl) who we had for five and half months before we got Bruce (blue masked male) who is still quite shy but getting better slowly.

Now, my problem is this: Pearl is so bold and often boisterous that she won't share seeds (which they both love) with Bruce. This is only when we try and give them to him one by one, not when they eat out of a bowl. She will just barge him out the way if I offer him a seed, which is very frustrating as I try to do this by hand to get him more tame. I have seen videos of lovebirds happily sharing seeds given to them one at a time without being greedy or selfish - how can I get Pearl to behave a bit more graciously!? Any ideas!? or is it a lost cause? it just seems with her dominating personality in the way we can't get to Bruce to try and get to know him and tame him as we'd like.

As always, any advice appreciated!

cheers,

Jane

You could get Bruce out by himself and feed him seeds. Then you wouldn't have interference from your rude bossy Pearl.

I agree with Chickobee. I've never had any luck with two birds out at once.

I'm also in agreement with taking Bruce out without Pearl, at least for now. She has a dominant personality, which is not likely to change, and Bruce allows her to have her way. Sounds like he's intimidated by her dominance, which is not uncommon.
