But it ended up ok. Here's what happened...

Thanksgiving day, I was going to be gone all day, and get home late.
I fed, watered, and played with all the birds before I left. All was good.

We got home pretty late, and the birds were already sleeping. I didn't go look at them. About 2 hrs later, I hear Jack making all kinds of racket and went to see what it was so she didn't wake the humans. :omg: OMG! She had managed to pull one of her food bowls INTO the cage (still can't figure out how she did it. Looks impossible to me). Because I'm really careful, all doors on every cage have clips to keep the birds from opening them. This food bowl was in one of those little doors, so when the bowl is there, the clip keeps the door about an inch and a half open. Now- the bowl WASN"T there.

I saw it open like that and thought "OMG, Jack! Thank goodness you didn't get out when I was gone for so many hours!" Anything could've happened to her. She could've gotten into anything! WHEW!!! So I locked up the door again, and put the bowl somewhere else.

The next morning, I was vacuuming. I get to the bird cages and see shredded paper on the floor about 2 feet away. :omg:
I see poopers on a table about 4 feet away!!! :omg:

She HAD been out while we were all gone!!! Silly little girl put herself back in before we got home!

She is fine, all is well, she has different bowls, and Jack had a little adventure!

It could have been dangerous, and I hate that part, but I can't help but get a little chuckle when I think of what it must have been like:

Uh oh! Huh? Hmmm- I can stick my head out <<looks around>>. Ok nobody looking, I'll just stretch out a little. Hello? Hellloooo? WHOOPEEEEEEE!!!!
Jack soars around the room, doing loops and dives, WOOHOO!!! :rotfl
Ooh ooh- mom hasn't let me have anything to shred in a while- here's some paper! Yay! What's that over there?? WHEEEEEEE! :rotfl
Oops- pooped on the table. That's ok, mom'll get it.
Hey- it's getting dark in here. They'll be home soon. Better get back.
Oh shoot- I can't fix the bowl. They're home!! I know- I'll make a bunch of noise so they think it just happened.
No no, Mommy- it was an accident. Thanks for fixing it. Night night- I Love You! Mmmmwaah!

:happy::rofl:

Oh wow!

So good that it didn't end in disaster and all jack had was an adventure!

With as much as I know and worry about my lovie now, the thought of how my first lovebird had free reign of the house ALL DAY during the week when we were at school & the parents were at work... it makes me shake my head at how lucky we really were!

What a little stinker! :rotfl It is hard not to laugh since we know she's OK. Now her momma has got to figure out HOW she managed to do that! Good luck! :D

Yeah- I got really lucky.

But boy, I wish I had a birdy cam so I could've seen how much fun she had while she was out.

So a similar thing happened with me and Bea. I came home from work and heard a lot of noise upstairs. When I went up to investigate Bea was in her cage and I found one of her doors was open! I don't know how but like you I found poop and the shredded paper as evidence that she had been out and about during the day. She must have decided to go back in when it started getting dark. I check and recheck the locks but somehow she managed to get out. I know we were lucky too!

Ohhhh jack!!! those lil stinker lovies! and smart enough to go back in too! You are SUCH a lovie Jack!! It's good to know that I'm not the only one who's lovie has that "bold" "up to know good" attitude....they can be such a little handful! Just like little kids! I've never had anything like this happen with Pip. I think Pip realizes when he's in his cage that this is where he's supposed to be when I put him in and he accepts that ok seeing as he has so much out time. I don't think he'd do something like that, but we have had some bad things almost happen......one time Pip was out and my boyfriend didn't realize this when he was putting Ivy in her cage to go to work. Pip was inside Ivy's cage and he put her in and closed the door and never realized Pip was in there too! They got along ok, but back then I had always watch them together and they weren't as good together as they are now. Now I think they'd be fine if this happened, but back then, I'm afraid to think of how things would have turned out! Luckily he noticed Pip in there before he left and put him back in his own cage! One time we went out somewhere and we both thought the other put Ivy in her cage before we left. Ivy was out the whole time we were gone! BUT....Ivy's not a lovebird either and she does really well out and will stay put where she's supposed to and back then she didn't have flight either.....thing with Ivy though....she's so scared of everything and if anything ever scared her or she saw something scarey out the window, she could have freaked out, flew and gotten hurt!
I just LOVE your story at the end with what Jack was thinking and doing.....you obviously know her VERY well!:rotfl another escape artist lovie!
