To heck with the poodle! I NEED A SPA DAY!! :lol
Wrapping is getting done slowly. Cards are done, I think. Shopping is done, I hope! Cookie dough is made, and soup stock; both are in the freezer, awaiting Christmas Eve. There are some odds and ends to buy.
The big blessing is that we are going over other peoples' houses, not having people here. So that pressure is off.

I have to do my shopping before Thanksgiving, since my older daughter's birthday is November 28th. I like to go the week or two before Thanksgiving so they aren't sold out of stuff. I just do it all in one day with my mother-in-law since we only buy for the kids.
The toys get stashed at her house, so I went over last Friday to wrap them. I do cards if I feel like it, and I bake pretty much after Melissa gets out of school for the next week. Today we are making Rolo Pretzel Turtles.

If anyone needs a cute appetizer recipe I found this the other day http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Cream-Cheese-Penguins/Detail.aspx Looks like it would be fun to make if you have small kids who can't help with baking,it's black olives stuffed with cream cheese and made to look like penguins!

Never enough time here! I HATE shopping! no matter the time of year! plus it's so cold out! I usually do my chistmas shopping after thanksgiving and will take one full day to just shop and get the majority of it done so I don't have to go as often! I still have quite a few things left to get! but I have the weekend yet and also off on Monday and going shopping then. Wrapping?? nope, no wrapping done yet. I always run out of time and end up doing it all at once and exhausted afterwards! I always get some good deals though this time of year and use the coupons they send in the mail.....last night I got ten bucks off a pair of sneakers for my son with a coupon.....not bad! I do ok, but I do put things off and not really wait til the last minute, but close enough! I hate this time of year....too much to do!..... I like when christmas gets here and it's all over!

Christmas? Bah Humbug! I'm no where near done :( Money is tight this year, tighter than usual so I have been procrastinating. Although, I usually am not done until Christmas Eve. But, this year.... Just not in the mood. :(

I hear you. We only bought for my kids, that is how tight it is around here. I can't even go to the mall during Xmas, the greed in people pisses me off when there are people out there that complain that $1000 Prada Bag has a tassle on it. Yeesh.

Nothing screams, "People we need to simplify" quite like the pressure we put on ourselves and each other at Christmas time. I'm good with go Christmas caroling with the family, go to Mass, and call it good. Of course, the wife makes sure we each get one gift and she and the kids always insist on putting up a tree, but I refuse to get suckered in to all the hassle.

Pretty much finished shopping as I shop early for gifts. Wrapping half-done, tree still out on patio, hopefully up this weekend. My husband is the chef in the house so I struck it very, very lucky there! Oh, I need to lose loads of weight so NO goodies in the house anytime!

Oh, I've got a neat idea for tags to share. In between Christmas and New Year's, I take all the cards we received and cut out the cute, small pix to use as gift tags on prezzies the following year. It's very therapeutic! And they look very nice, if I do say so myself. I use a single hole puncher and put a little narrow ribbon in it to hang it off the gift. And it's almost free. :wreath:

Not even close, still staring down the barrel of 2 exams (both tomorrow), then it's the boyfriends family Christmas, friends baby shower, then I finally start my shopping on a 3 day trip to Michigan, then I get back just in time to make it home on Christmas eve, to spend the whole day wrapping. Why do I do this to myself again???

CompassionAk, you've done it again! First with your growth pictures and now with a cute recipe. :) I have a get-together with my cousin-in-law the day after Christmas so I'll be taking this dish along as my contribution.
Although I've never made this before, I might modify it by cutting up mozzarella string-cheese into disks (or half-disks) and see if it'll be neater and quicker than using cream cheese, as the stuffing. I'll see; if it's quicker by even three seconds, I'll do it this way.
Y'all, let me whisper what the temperature is here: 78 degrees. :) Don't hate me because I live here in sunny San Diego. :)
I'm almost there, only two gifts to wrap. I do all my shopping on-line or catalogues because I can't cope with the parking crush--and who thinks of shopping for gifts in July, as any sane, organized, far-thinking person would and should do? Hmm?
Peace on Earth, everyone.

I wonder if you could use softened cream cheese in a piping bag to fill them?Oh btw my bags are packed and ready to go to San Diego

Only 78 degrees? It's been in the upper 80s here in sunny South Florida lately, even though today it's a chilly 72 and rainy :)
I'm not remotely ready, but we are just having a small Christmas this year - focusing on spending time together and not loads of presents. We're making popcorn chains for the tree, decorating graham cracker houses (easier than mucking around with crumbly gingerbread with little boys!), caroling with the Cub Scouts, and building family traditions. It will be the first Christmas we haven't traveled to visit my family, so it's a lot less stressful!

Ok, Ok.....come on now.....you guys gotta stop this 70 and 80 degree stuff!, it was nine degrees here yesterday at around noon! Not sure what it is now, but the brutal cold got her early this year. Technically, it's not even supposed to be winter until the 21st!! I am SOooo cold, I had to turn the heat up! Brrrrrr!!!! Send some of that warm up here, ok??

Nope - we're on the west coast in Fort Myers. We head over to West Palm a lot, though (gotta have my Russo's fix!). My hubby grew up in West Palm, and we still have friends and family over there.

Christmas isn't really happening here this year :( but as one gesture of Christmas cheer, I submit my favorite simple I-need-to-bring-something-yummy-but-can't-cook-don't-have-time dish.
Mix equal parts of pumpkin butter w/ soft cream cheese. Put in a bowl beside a plate of ginger snaps for dipping. Or spread between two cookies. Yummo!!!! I get the necessary items at Trader Joe's--triple ginger ginger snaps, jars of pumpkin butter, whipped cream cheese. I've also used pumpkin butter blended with regular cream cheese as frosting for loaves of pumpkin bread (made from mix, also from Trader Joe's). Merry Christmas, all.

we're not having a commercial christmas, either. our anniversary is 3 days before christmas, so we tend to focus on that for the presents and just sip hot chocolate with family on the actual day of. husband has to work on christmas and the days before/after, so i feel sort of like a scrooge this year.

Thankfully I have been excused from X-mas this year. I'm pretty indiferent to holidays but my husband loves Christmas and all the trimmings, but with buying a house and moving we are too tired to even think about the holidays this year.
Turkey in the fridge... check.
Groceries done... check.
Gifts all wrapped... check.
Goodies and treats purchased.... check.
House clean... half check.
Mom comming down for Christmas... checked. We had to buy her a last minute airplane ticket (price was not too bad actually!) but she is coming. INstead of staying until the 26th, she is staying until the 31st. Even better! First Christmas together in 14 years!
