i came home from work and was talking to the babies. i went to move jada's cage away from the lovebirds when i noticed that pan and evie's food bowl was inside their cage and not sitting out on the ledge where it normally is. i thought, "that's odd."
then i noticed that it was only pan in his cage. i kept looking into the cage and did not see evie. i looked in her hut, not there. i went to my purse where she normally hides in when she's out of her cage. did not see her there. i called for her over and over. nothing.
i called my boyfriend, freaking out on the phone. everything and everyone is accounted for except for evie. i'm about to start crying and about to call the police.
then i heard chirp chirp chirp coming from somewhere near my room. apparently she was hiding in that yellow purse and i missed it. i don't know how she got out (obviously her food doors arent locked). i don't know how long she's been out or anything. she just looked at me like, "what mom? i'm here, relax." ARGH. almost had a heart attack.
hopefully it was all her doing and not someone coming into my apt, which i'm sure is not the situation (like only the caretaker has the keys and i trust him)

Glad you found Evie and she's safe and sound!!!
That happened with Peanut, my late parrotlet hen. Somehow she managed to get out of her cage and she fell into a small garbage can that I had in the room to discard paper and seed shells. Kiwi, her mate, was calling for her but she never made a sound. I turned the house upside down and ran out of places to search. I was getting ready to empty the garbage can out in the garage when I realized that I hadn't looked through it, as I never expected to find her there. Good thing I looked, because that's where she was!
I can well appreciate the feelings, as I was terrified I was going to find Peanut dead somewhere, if I found her at all! Hopefully, Evie will not do a repeat escape!!!

That's a scary feeling when you can't find them and I'm so happy that Evie is safe.I don't take mine out of the computer/birdroom in my current place because the last place I lived I let the birds come with me when I would walk around and they knew the layout and would go looking for me and there were a few times I couldn't find them. Of course they were fine, usually sitting up on some high point in the room probably laughing at me while I frantically looked for them.

This same thing happened with Jack a few weeks ago.
She actually put herself back in her cage after exploring and chewing, though.
Glad Evie's ok!

i mean, seriously, my worst nightmare is losing them either by theft or flying away. that little stinker. wish i could have recorded it somehow. i don't know how she did it. it had to be teamwork w/ pan being in there

.....I called for her over and over. nothing......
Never fails! ... You run around like a mad person calling over and over, trying to locate your lost loved one, and the whole time they were right there watching you.....>:
Glad to hear everyone is SAFE!!!........:)

Something similar happened to Ethel the other week. She was gallivanting around in front of our lv rm closed patio doors when BAM! a huge red-tailed hawk, hoping for a lovie snack?? slammed into the doors. Hawk was ok but Ethel flew her longest flight ever (clipped wings growing in nicely)to the kitchen and hid behind the blinds! Took me just a few seconds to find her but was my heart beating! Lucky nothing was cooking, eh?
So glad your Evie ok, Bookworm!

Im very glad shes okay! I hated that about apartments. When they had to do certain checks or sprays they would just let us know "between these days" but never an exact time. And if you werent home theyd just let themselves in!! This really bothered me...to the point i told the management that if someone came in and got bit, it was NOT my problem, my dog is very protective. And it didnt happen again. Of course shes all bark..but who were they to know :D lol
Unfortunately in my case tho in the house, mine were actually gone. :( I know the heart attack feeling..and i still get it the moment a bird leaves my sight. Im crazy paranoid about them now.

yes, i've seen how her and pan got the food bowl out and inside their cage. they slam the door up and down and keep jumping around and pushing things and that's how it got inside and she got out. i've been watching them. darn it joey!!! they learned it from him. he's got them all doing it except for chomper and jada (but that's just cuz her cage is designed differently)

My sister had a finch/parakeet cage with the lift-up doors by the feeders. Her two lovebirds, Gus and Marley, would sometimes be out having a party in the family room and she couldn't figure out how they were getting out.
Then she watched one day from across the room and discovered that they had a great routine. They would take turns lifting up the door and holding it open for each other! It was very cute to watch, and amazing how clever they were. Lovies are so smart!
Those doors got clipped shut after that.
Luckily this problem was solved before one of their cats had lovebird snacks!
Now her birds live in what they refer to as "the mansion", which is a cage they got from me when we switched to the Bird's Comfort flight cages. No more lift-up feeder doors!
