Are there any space heaters that are safe to use around birds? It's been really cold up here and one of the people who adopted from me asked about space heaters and I wasn't sure what to tell them?If anyone has suggestions on a brand and model taht is safe let me know thanks.

Holmes brand and Lakewood are both safe to use. My own preference is oil filled radiant heaters but I only use Lakewood or Honeywell. Based on my own experience, off the wall brands aren't as durable and I usually have to replace them the year after I buy them. It's been very cold here and I'm running 2 heaters in my main aviary, as well as 2 heaters in my garage aviary. One just doesn't do the job of keeping everyone warm enough.

It's a toasty 19 here, at least that's what it says the temp is online....I think it feels colder then that myself and I am happy I am living where the heat is free!

OK, I don't want to make you feel bad, but it was 76-degrees here today. But I still use the Lakewood oil-filled heater (Home Depot) because we turn the heat off at night and I know the house gets cool-to-chilly at night. I don't want Petey to suffer from the cold because he has a bald patch on his back and wing.
I use the 600-watt setting and turn the dial until it's pointing straight up vertically--probably a low-medium, although there are no markings. I bought this unit many years ago so the newer models may have different control indicators. The unit is placed about 16-inches away from his cage. I feel and test the heat several times a night until I go to bed.
If Petey were a singleton, I would buy a happy hut and not bother with a space heater because the hut would keep him warm, but with Juanita, having a happy hut is a trigger for her to nest, so I can't have one.
If the new owners have a male, using a happy hut and covering the cage at night to keep out drafts might be the only precaution he needs to take. Some people use the heated perch as a supplemental comfort area for their parrots, as well.
