Baking Soda

I was wondering if it would be ok to sprinkle baking soda on my carpets and let it sit over night then vacum it up?I'm guessing it's ok,but I want to double check before I do it.

Yes, it's safe to use baking soda on your carpeting and leave it overnight. I've done it and it works very well!

Hooray!Last time my boyfriend came back from a week of work he said it smelled like a barn so I wanted to freshen it up a bit lol.It's not a problem in Summer when I can open the windows ,but it's a rare warm day that we can do that during Winter here.

I actually mix baking soda with natural tea tree oil and let it sit on the carpets overnight. Gives it a fresh clean smell.

Easiest way? Put baking soda in an old container, like a cool whip container, coffee can...whatever. Add a few drops of tea tree oil (natural oils work well too, almond oil, orange oil, blah blah blah. Just make sure they are natural!) and let sit out for the oils to infuse in the can. Punch holes in the lid and sprinkle away!!

Oh I have this Orange oil that has been in my cupboard almost a year because I wasn't sure if it was safe to use around the birds.Here's a couple pics,do you think this would be ok mixed with the baking soda like NickyBeth suggested?

As long as it is an essential oil, you're good to go. What you don't want is something that you scent soap or candle wax with. Since this is all natural orange oil, you look good to me. I've used orange too!! Sometimes adding a tinch of a powdered spice like cinnamon is nice too, gives a neat earthy scent like you just baked.

I use Borax (NOT boric acid - LOL!) on my carpets, and it works wonders on smells, and naturally repels bugs.
