Today, I was eating a piece of apple pie next to Rudy's cage, since not only is eating with them supposed to be a friendly gesture, but it also makes them very curious about what you are eating! Rudy was actually out of his cage, but on top of it. He watched me very closely and it was obvious he was curious! Once I finished with my piece of pie, I picked up a small piece of the crust and offered it to him. The piece was proably only about a half inch long out from my hand, and he took the bait! he was hesitant, and would do his little scared yell, and I said....I know.....I know it isn't easy for you, but he did it!!! he took a bite of the pie crust from my hand! A big step for such a scared little lovie! I'm winning him over!!!! :clap:D

Congratulations! That's a very big brave step for Rudy. You've waited a long time for this. Now maybe he'll do more things since he's broken this barrier and found out that good things come from your hands.

Well....I don't expect it to be that easy with Rudy. I imagine it will take lots of times for him to take things from my hand before he is comfortable it. You have to remember....he's been here now six months! Luckily though, he's very nosey and his curiosity is really helping me to get closer to him! He watches everything so closely....so unlike Pip! Pip is too busy doing his own thing to pay that much attention to most things....unless it's something he really likes or wants! Pip came to me from a good home where he was loved and taken very good care of......where Rudy came from a not so great home where kids probably poked at him and scared him, and two small, really loud dogs barking every time someone came in that home....I could tell when I picked him up that the dogs scared him, and I can only imagine what other things in that home scared him....it's no wonder he's scared and will take time for him to trust. The girl giving Rudy up didn't even seem to care at all about giving up her lovies. She had four of them, re-homed three....Rudy was the last one to go. Sadly, as far as I know she still has that fourth lovie. After picking Rudy up and seeing the small cage, and her telling me that she never let him out....dogs barking like crazy, kids running all over, I tried asking her if she'd give up the other lovie a couple weeks after we got Rudy after recieving her email saying she didn't have any time for the one she kept, but she didn't go for it. :( I've tried emailing her pics and videos of Rudy, but never got a response. I still wonder alot how that lovie is doing and if she still has him. If she'd respond to my emails, I'd ask. I told her to keep me in mind if she wants to give up the other one. I can email her again and try, but I doubt I'll ever hear from her again. Rudy didn't even know what millet was when I got him. :(

Oh wow. That is just a sad story. What is it with people and small cages? My tiels had flight cage, floor to ceiling. That thing ate my house! LOL Lil Cabo is in a 36x24x20. He looks lost in there all alone but he loves it and I'd like to get him something bigger. Why some people are allowed to own and animal of any kind is beyond me. Bt the truly important thing here is that YOU have Rudy and he is happy :)
