Well I was thinking, I'm a fan person, unfortanatly i sleep with cealing fan and a portable fan on for 2 reasons, 1 being the obvious reason is i get hot out here ins south Texas, the humidity is horrable, and for the other reason might sound strange, I can't sleep in dead silence, I know its weird but the sounds of dead silence keep me awake. Anyways, being that said, and I have seen the thread about the cealing fan cover, does anyone have any ideas to make a stand up portable fan..... bird proof.... for when i decide my room is safe enough to let him wonder around and discover new secret areas to hide in to where i can't reach him ?

Take a good look at your fan. What is the spacing between the bars and how close are the blades to the bars? The various fans I've used over the years would be safe enough to use around a toddler, meaning itty-bitty fingers can't get through the bars. If the spacing is small enough to prevent that, it should be safe enough for your lovie.

Does your standing fan go from left to right and back again? Usually there is an option to make it stay in one place.

I have an 8 x 8 box fan that I run at night when I'm sleeping or when it's not hot enough to turn on the AC. Pickle ignores it entirely.

Yea, my fan does oscillate but i keep it still, im just worried for its tiny legs to go through the top of the fan between the bars. Well, i would like to ask some advice if i can, do any of you let your lovies roam after yall hit the sack, or do yall put em back in the cages for... security reasons. I an have the fans off during the day, its just when I'm in bed i need them on.

I always put my birds back in their cages at bedtime. Heaven knows what mischief they would get into if I didn't! Also good luck with your fan situation.

When you are talking about fans, especially small ones, my birds would be in their cages when the fan is on. Fan blades do a LOT of damage very quickly and it's just not worth the risk. If I'm asleep and it's daytime, I also leave my birds in their cages. You never know when a lovebird will decide that it wants to cuddle up to you when you are asleep. It's not hard to roll over on one and suffocate it without realizing what's going on.

With three kids (including a toddler) and cats, our lovie Cipher is ALWAYS supervised when he's out. The boys have incorporated putting Cipher in his cage as part of their bedtime ritual, so he's used to going to bed when they are!

Have you tried sleeping with a white noise machine instead? I have one in our room, and we have a small fish tank in the boys' room (nightlight, white noise, and pet all in one!).

Something about that steady sound when you sleep seems to make you sleep better. I'm the same way, but don't usually have any trouble sleeping without it. For us it's the sound of the air conditioner.....maybe a small air conditioner in the bedroom window?? and at night using a fan shouldn't be a problem if your birds are sleeping, or just run the fan in a different room from where the birds are?? There's always some way of working it out!

I use this type of fan http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11490672&whse=BC&Ne=5000001%204000000&eCat=BC|89|107&N=4001612%204294967036&Mo=0&No=0&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1 and the way it's made the birds can't get into it at all.It has several differnt speeds and works great,I have had mine a couple years now and am 100% satisfied. If it gets dusty inside you can just take an air compressor or canned air and clean it out.

Does that particular fan blow pretty good?

I think it does great and I like all the different settings. We purchased two and both work great.

PS Always keep your lovie in his/her cage while you sleep or are away, they are curious little birds and I know mine are always interested in things they shouldn't be!Better safe then sorry.

Yea I've gathered that already, besides, i don't think my lovie is ready to come out just yet, we are still working on the trusting factor, but he comes up to me when I'm either reading or on the computer to see what I'm doing, and even cuter hehe, is i noticed when i started eat something near him, he hopes over to my side of the cage, then hopes down to the floor lvl of the cage and starts to eat himself. It is getting exciting, recently i just bought some nutriberries, dunno how to introduce them to Tuki yet, doesn't seem that interested in them.

Sometimes when I am trying to interest my birds in something new I will pretend to eat it and that usually gets their interest hehe.

I have one of those in my main aviary to circulate cool air towards one end that tends to get warmer in the summer. Mine works very well, and, yes, it does blow air!
