We are still here...just not on line much. The older mom gets (99 in August) the more challenges we face. The flock is fine, although I think the canary is in his final days. He's approaching 12 (I think) so that's not unexpected. Both of the girls are flighted now! This makes them happy but presents challenges for me. It was quite a surprise the first time Gussie joined me in the bathroom. I'm standing there, brushing my teeth, when Plop, there's a bird on my shoulder! I was less enchanted the day I was cleaning the keyboard and she grabbed the "u" right out of my hand and took off with it. Took me 3 days to find it. Made it hard for "bUbblelady) to sign on or check e mail. :omg: I was a little concerned at first about hitting the window but 2 or 3 gentle crashes seemed to solve that problem. Until this morning. We both noticed a hawk, WAY up high, at the same time. She was off like a shot and smashed into the window pretty hard. Scared me half to death. She's okay now, but the drapes have been permanently drawn near my chair! Watching the birds outside isn't worth risking my baby. Johari likes to play hide and seek now. Made me late for work the day she found a REALLY good hiding place. She answers me when I call her & she is in plain sight. But NOT when she is hiding. I eventually heard some tiny rustling while standing in the back bedroom. It sounded really close but I couldn't find her anywhere. Not in the boxes of Christmas decorations on the floor. Nor in the laundry basket or closet or on the book shelf. But the TINY rustling continued--occasionally--right beside me. And where was the little twerp? In the (empty) black water bottle on my exercise machine, about 4 inches from my elbow! She would never have been able to get out of there on her own. I'll take a picture of her in the NARROW bottle soon. Silly bird!

Hi Bubblelady, it's great to see you on! I have problems with my birds getting scared when they see Eagles flying outside so I got one of those curtain rods that holds two sets of curtains, regular curtains in the front and then sheer see through curtains behind. It's nice because I can still see outside pretty good and if the birds get scared and fly towards the window they have something to grab ahold of rather then just ram into the glass.

Johari is such a little stinker - I love it! Cipher stinks at hide-and-seek. My little doof makes little peeping noises when he is trying to be sneaky, kind of like lovie snickering.

Its good to see you around here again, and I'm glad to here your flock is well. I hope Canary Grant does well as a senior, though I am not well-read in the life-spans of canaries. I can't wait to see photos of Gus and Johari.
Aside from the windows where I have UV stickers or mosquito netting- I keep the shades drawn to keep accidents from happenings, too. I figure its better to be safe than sorry.

Hi Maureen. .. Nice to hear from you! .... Sure is amazing how some clipped birds manage to immediately regain their flight. ... And thank gosh you found Johari!......Speaking of disappearing acts....Beebers has recently discovered pant legs and laundry baskets. ..Worst part about both my feathered clowns, is whenever they hide, no matter what you do, they never make a peep!......>:......:)

Boy that sure is the truth! My boyfriend had come in and sat his coat down on his chair before he went to take the trash out . I noticed Pele was no where to be found and I was tearing up the place and thinking that he had gone outside on my boyfriends shoulder and flown away.
I was so freaked out and then I looked over and saw this little yellow head peeking at me from under Adams coat. That stinker didn't make a single peep the entire time I called for him,he just must have sat there watching me run around lol. I think that gave me a few grey hairs!

aww! thanks for the update! i look forward to more pics... sunny's flight feathers are finally starting to grow back and she's starting to make some more daring leaps across the living room. Hubby and I are trying to decide if we should clip her now or wait till she has a little more flight ability and more feathers in before we do the deed....
Oh my!
Do be careful! I had one of my birds fly into the wall really hard, hit and then fall abt 7 feet. Started to have seizures as I held it. Luckily pulled thru after a few hrs of being wobbly.
Everyone here who is out of their cage is now clipped. That scared me too much to risk any further injuries :(
