pan and evie have been mating lately. you don't think they're thinking about another clutch do you? apollo and orion are barely 5 weeks old. i don't want evie to lay again because i need to take her to the vet after all this. she's been picking at her old wound once more so i think she might need a collar put on. plus i don't want her to lay another clutch so soon. what's a healthy amount of clutches anyway per year?

Ugh sounds like what Boo and Annie did! Annie laid two more clutches of eggs (which I replaced with fake) one right after the other after the first clutch was hatched and weaned despite all my attempts to stop her. I seem to recall that you don't want her to lay more than three. I'd have to look back on my posts for an exact time frame, but I swear I thought she was never going to stop laying eggs!
I'm so happy with my new setup *knock on wood* because Annie and Boo have really been behaving themselves!
Is there something in the water? Bobble has laid two clutches this year and is now trying again (only one clutch last year) all straight after each other, its quite frustrating, there is nothing in the cage she can make a nest with this time around which seems to be slightly putting her off but all the signs are there apart from her searching for paper! I too thought the same as CompassionAk, she doesnt seem to want to stop!

Ah here's a couple of posts from when I was dealing with the same thing.

Looking back I see she laid her first clutch of eggs Sept 3-Sept 13 with the first baby hatching on Sept 27 and the last on Oct 6th. She laid her second clutch of eggs December 12 and then the third clutch of eggs February 17. I don't know if any of that will help you but that might give you a time frame of when to expect Evie to start acting the same.

I'm with you here! Ariel went into laying condition again before her babies were weaned, and now so did Skittles. Ariel had four new eggs at last count and maybe when we get home today there will be five.
Nesty little hens! Ariel was even still being nice to her babies!

i'm just gonna have to take out the nest box asap after weaning. i'm not gonna give her a happy hut though i know her and pan love sleeping in one. that's too bad. i would let her have another clutch, but not now. her and pan gotta rest up and just have fun w/ the others and she's gotta go see the vet for her underarm. these hens! if only i could hide paper from her. if i don't give paper, she'll find other alternatives: books on the bookshelf, some movies, and of course, my blinds!

I've been having luck with having a sleep cage that is no where in sight during the day and at night I let Boo and Annie have their happy hut. *knock on wood* I probably have jinxed myself by saying that lol.
