A lot has been going on at home in the last few months. ...From personal tragedy to business/housing issues, lets just say at times, it can get tough to share even some of the simple things in life. .... What i'd like to share most though, is that Lovebirdsplus has so many wonderful members. ..Whether its through questions, or thoughtful answers, your always willing to contribute in a way that enriches the lives of both parrots and fidparronts. ....A special thanks to everyone here at Lovebirdsplus community.
So hey...lets move on here. ...April 16, B.B. managed to somehow break his leg in three places. ..Still no clue as to how, or where, but we do know it happened inside his cage. .. There are no rope perches, thready type objects, and certainly no toys with dangerous chains or links. ..Matter of fact, he spends most his days outside his cage. ..Good part is, shortly after letting him out, I noticed his awkward landing, whereas I quickly stablized it until the vet could cast it in place. .. Dr. Lindstrom did a wonderful job! ..Since then (after almost four weeks of his leg remaining in a cast), he's apparently come out operating his leg down to his toes as though nothing has ever happened. ....Thank you very much.
As for both my boys feather/skin destructive behavior. ... Goofs managed to keep himself from having any sort of major anxiety attack, or from the necessity to sport an ecollar. ...Mind you's, whenever a parrot decides to suddenly remove flesh, that can be very discouraging. ..And Goof has been NO exception. ...What I feel has helped so far the most, is scheduling of various activities throughout the day, bathing, and a decent nutritional foundation. ... Time spent on diagnosing, or even on the most rudimentary justifications, are long done and over with. ...That is to conclude, FDB in Goof's arena receives absolutely NO attention at all.
Now B.B.'s FD?... Well.....Between several others and myself, we've pretty much come up with what i've felt all along. ..Beebers really just needs a mate. ....Someone to preen...Someone to preen him back. ...Whats a parrot supposed to do when there's no other "accepting" feathered companion around who understands? ..Except to somehow try consummating a self imposed relationship?. ... Eh...He's fine, regardless of his self infatuation. ...Doesn't need an ecollar. Doesn't need hormone therapy. ...Doesn't need creams/lotions, (Mainly because he had not responded to them).
Anyways. Here's a couple pics. ....One of Beeber's broken leg. ..One of ole Goofy. Another two of Beeb's performing his usual squatting routine. ... I really think B.B.'s a goofy bird..............:)

(((((((((((((((((Michael, B.B. and Goofy))))))))))))))))))))))) Times are hard right now and the best we can do is to be here for each other. None of us is alone in this, that's for sure!
Sometimes the best treatment is no treatment at all. If nothing is working, then there's no reason to continue with efforts that are futile. It sounds like Goofy is happy and a lovie companion for B.B. could be the answer there. I'm glad that B.B. came through the broken leg with no nerve damage. Anytime a leg is broken, that's one of the risks.

I'm so sorry to hear that you've been going through some tough times. You know, even when things seem quiet and are going well, out of the blue comes a day like I had yesterday! I take my boyfriend's mom grocery shopping every Mon. and walked into her home to find her cat just laying on the floor with not enough energy to move except to wag her tail. I totally cannot believe that cat survived and is doing well today, although still at the vet and what a stressful day yesterday dealing with all that! Took up pretty much my whole day off and we had to wait until 8pm to get in at the vet....the rest of the day I'm thinking....the cat is never going to make it and it's going to die on her living room floor...Uggghhh, gotta love days like that!
You're right....Lovebirds plus does have so many wonderful members! Everyone here is very kind, and I've always especially enjoyed all the funny comments you've made that always make me laugh! I remember when Pip had his ear infection how you reminded me that Goof's ear infection had never returned or caused any more problems, so that kind of eases my mind that Pip's will probably do the same!
Love the pics.....B.B reminds me a little of Pip, so I guess it's not a huge surprise that he's mischievous....the poses in those last two pics of him are classic Pip poses! And Goof.....how adorable is that cuddly, cozy little guy? I love when they get all cozy like that.....maybe because I rarely see it because they're always so darn hyper and on the go! Glad to hear that Goofy is doing well and that his leg is all mended and good as new!

Positive thoughts coming your way. I hope any unresolved issues are on their way toward a peaceful and positive resolution for you. I know life doesn't always work out that way- but it doesn't hurt to focus on the positive. I know it can be difficult to keep up communications when things are tough. Thanks for the newsy update.
Mysterious injuries are troublesome, and leaves us with so many questions. I'm so glad that the leg has healed without complication!
I wish you luck in your search for a lovie companion!
Be well.

I'm sorry you're in a rough spell, too! Misery does NOT love company, at least in my book. I know you'll hang in there but wish it wasn't necessary. The girls are overjoyed to be home...got home yesterday afternoon. I'm not telling them we're going back tomorrow night. One silver lining...Johari, after 8 days in the cage with NO out time at all, isn't mad at me as I feared she would be. In fact, she is letting me give her beak rubs with only minimal effort to bite me :). And Gussie, who has been making me towel her to get her in the cage for the past 4 days went right in from my finger, as soon as we were on home ground. Such good girls, no grudges at all. Aren't birds wonderfully resiliant? We could learn a few lessons from them! Hugs coming your way.....And sooooo glad B.B. is okay!!!!!

Glad everything is picking up and a sleeping goffy pic aww made my week!
Glad that B.B healed up okay; it's so worrying when they get injured...and I think I've pretty much reached a similar conclusion with Frodo's self-inflicted plucking/chewing; if there's nothing physically wrong, you can only explore and wonder so much before you have to just deal with it as it comes, try to prevent it when you can and hope that it doesn't happen too often. Your lovies are both so cute; Goof looks very much like my Frodo in that pic (is he an olive green?). I hope things continue to improve for them both.

OMG - broken in three places - I couldn't imagine enough space on their little legs for a cast, but there it is. That is such good news that he came out of it fully healed!
You seem to have explored a lot of options with regards to feather destruction, and it sounds like you have a real handle on dealing with it. It is so hard to know what to do, but hopefully they will both continue to not need collars.
Love the pics!!!! :)
Be good to your Dad guys!! (((((((((Michael, B.B, and Goofy)))))))))))

Hi Michael,
I haven't been on for quite sometime, but when I do stop in I always like to get my "Goofy" and "BB" update. You are right about this board, whenever I have an opportunity to share about this site with someone who has a lovebird I always tell them what a great forum it is and how much it helped me when I had my Peaches.
Anyway, I enjoyed the pics and I pray that you'll be having some sunnier days ahead.

Thank you everyone for the warm responses! ... Beeber's really has healed quite well, considering for the first two weeks he had not once moved his entire foot. .. Requirement, was to leave the cast in place for three weeks. ..Actually, I think it was better to trim it back, but yet, still leave most on for a good four. ...Better to have it firmly heal as opposed to dealing with a re-break. As for the breaks mysterious origin, and despite his dauntless resiliency...Hopefully, B.B.'s memory serves as a permanent reminder as to where not to stick his foot.
Dodo...Is he an olive green? ...Yes..but...I often refer to him as a "pickle". .......:)
Ecollars? ....Nodda!........

Hi Michael;
Thank you for the updates, even though it wasn't all good news. I hope your problems are now resolved, or on the way to it so things are getting better. Unfortunately it's sometimes true that "when it rains, it pours".
I was so sorry to hear about BB's leg. I'm very pleased to hear he made it through OK and his leg is now working normally. What a huge relief that must be!
I have personal experience from years ago with rushing my brother's parakeet to the vet when it broke it's leg by getting it caught in the cuttlebone wire. I can understand how frantic things can get when you discover something like that. It's sure no fun. He was in Korea at the time and there was no way we wanted to let him know that his beloved bird had died while he was gone. That little guy also did well and lived quite a few more years.
I may have a little hen for BB, and I will PM you. ;)

A little more enthusiastic than Neil Youngs "Little wing"......
Little wing.
All her friends call her Little Wing
But she flies rings around them all
She comes to town when the children sing
And leaves them feathers if they fall
Little Wing, don't fly away
When the summer turns to fall
Don't you know some poeple say
The winter is the best time of them all
Winter is the best of all
Neil young
