I have four lovebird rescues in one cage. They have been together for three years. Two are very energetic and two sleep all the time. IS that bad that they sleep so much????

I've got to question sleeping all the time. Sounds like something isn't right. Lovebirds will nap but they are normally fairly active during the day.

How do their droppings look?

Yes they are fluffed up. I wonder if the other two are keeping them up at night?

How do their droppings look? Normal? Runny?

Could you put these 2 in a separate cage and see what happens? Do you have any photos you can share with us?

If there's any doubt in your mind that they don't feel well, a vet appointment is definitely in order! There's no price tag on peace of mind!

Hope this works for photos. The last one is the best I could get of them sleeping without waking them. It seems Batman (green) is the sleeper and Chicken (yellow) just hangs with him.

Fluffed up feather and lethargic behavior is a sign that something is not right. From your photos they look ok, but sick birds will keep up appearances until the last minute when it will be too late to do anything.

Also what Linda said about the droppings, are there two kinds of droppings in that cage? It will be best to separate the sleepers in a different cage and then observe if their droppings are different than the active ones, whiter? runnier? You can put a white paper at the bottom of the cage to observe this. And if you are going to the vet then you can show also this paper to the vet.

Best of luck,

Lawrence

I see what you mean now by fluffed up, sleeping. Does Batman tend to look up a lot? That's the feeling I get when I see the first photo. In the second photo, Batman seems to be leaning into Chicken. Something is amiss but I can't put a finger on it.

He does, he is always putting his head back. We thought it was just his personality. He is like a little Stevie Wonder. I added a few more photos from when I got him to today....

What came to mind when I looked at the photos is called stargazing. Here's a link that explains it: http://www.avianweb.com/stargazing.html I have a hen that was hatched normally but developed it when she was about 2.

If it can be caused by an inner ear disorder do you think it makes them dizzy? My grandmother has vertigo caused by an inner ear disorder and gets sick for days when it hits her.
