I was just wondering how your birdies react to a storm outside. I know that when the weather gets bad my dog runs for cover, but I never have seen much change in my lovies behavior. Do your birdies seem weird during storms? Also if so is it bad to have her out of her cage during a storm? (Not outside I promise!)

Most of my birds don't react to storms but my aviary that is outside on my lanai will let me know when they hear the rain on the roof that goes over the area where I have the aviary enclosure. I think it's more of a warning that something different is going on rather than a reaction to the storm itself.

Depending on the storm, I usually don't lock everyone up. However, everyone is caged when a hurricane passes over the area where I live. Again, depending on the severity of the hurricane, I've been known to evacuate my outside aviary, which is why all cages have wheels on them.

Great thanks Linda. I was just wanting to make sure she wouldn't get to freaked out if she was out of her cage during the storms, I was just thinking that birds outside flee from the storm... well thats problery because they just don't want to get wet.

Ditto loves thunderstorms. When it rains he takes a bath. He also loves to look out the window and watch the lightning. And heaven forbid I open the door when the wind is blowing the rain that way, he'll fluff up, open his wings and let the rain get him (and me) wet. If I try to walk away from the door to close it he'll fly off my shoulder and hang on the screen until he's soaked. :omg:

For whatever reason, i've have it in my head that birds like to go for cover whenever there's stormy weather. ..So usually, I escort my two little clowns back to their cages. .. About the only thing noticable about their behavior during thunderstorms, is that they remain fairly quiet. .. Now if I leave them out, Beebers will perch himself on the stair banister, while Goof hides behind my ear. .. Still quiet?......Yup.....Especially during the 4th of July! .......:omg:

Aside from occasionally doing a "hit the deck" move when there's a big crash of thunder, usually my birds don't react too much to storms. Its usually the two lovebirds for some reason, who get spooked by extra big thunder-crashes around here.

My budgie Min is prone to screaming and huddling at the bottom of his cage in very nasty storms, and Kiki the lovie tends to join in the ruckus because, well, she can. When Min is taking well to them, she's no louder than usual.

We think Min's afraid of them because he's from one of those big "warehouse" built pet stores with the metal roof and no soundproofing, I can only imagine how they sounded to him there :O

Granted, I'm usually cowering too.
