Hi everyone!

I want to show you the last trick that Wiki has learnt, I hope you like it

I bought this parrot toy some months ago and last week I started to teach Wiki to use it :)

http://i35.tinypic.com/20iw2s0.jpg

She brings me every object that I ask her, so I began with that to make her understand that she had to take the ring with her beak. Then I worked in order to get that Wiki dropped the ring on the toy.

When she did it whitout a problem I started to help her inserting the ring:

She understood it really fast and I could delete this help little by little and covertly

She knew perfectly what she had to do, but it was really difficult because the ring´s hole was very small. So, I changed the ring and she did it very good :)

Now she´s practicing with the small ring again, more difficult but more "challenging" at the time

I´m really curious about how lovebirds distinguish colours, that´s why I bought this toy. I´ll tell you when we work on that way (inserting each colour in its place).

Greetings!

Utterly amazing! .........To this day, I have never underestimated the intelligence of our feathered friends. ... No matter what species they were. ... No doubt, Wiki's abilities will always outweigh the possibilties. .. Thanks Belenny for sharing your very special Lovebird!............:)

Hi belenny,
Thanks for sharing the series of very interesting videos! Wiki sure is getting the idea quickly! What are you offering for her treat???? :)

It's a known fact that parrots see in color. What you might have to do is give each ring the name of the color and show her which post matches it. I'm amazed at how well she does with the ring that has the smaller hole!

I don´t remember the name of her treat in English, but here you can see it ;)

The problem when you give each colour a name and work with them separately is that they can learn the position and not to look the colours at all  I´ll think about how to teach them, for the moment we´ll continue inserting the small ring :)

Thanks for your comments!

I don´t remember the name of her treat in English
Millet or spray millet. Many times, it's affectionately referred to as birdie candy!! :)

This is awesome! What a little smartie Wiki is!!

You've done a wonderful job teaching her how to do this in small steps so she could learn it.

Your videos are all so cute too. It's nice to have them here so we can all see the entire process.

Way to go!!!

Look at this

She´s SO smart... She knows that is easier to insert the big ring, so if I don´t remove it she will take it out and insert it again and again to get her treat without making any effort xD

As you can see now she can insert the small rings very good, we´ll work with red ones for some time and then I´ll try to introduce another colour :)

Greetings!

One bird for one heart.

Is it my imagination, or in that last video do I hear somebirdy in the background saying "Wiki"
I do hear it.....pretty clearly.....it sounds like Mac is saying Wiki in the background at 1:27 into the video and also at 1:49 listen closely!

Hahaha yes Pips, there´s another lovie saying Wiki, but it´s not Mac. It´s Brownie, one of the little females of this clutch :)

Yesterday she went with her new family, all the chicks can say "Wiki" because Wiki and Mac teach them xD
