My little lovebird Pistacchio past away a couple of months ago, leaving his Kiwi friendless :(
About a month ago I started looking for another friend for my Kiwi but didn't have much luck. But on my way to work, my husband text me a picture of one of my bird cages (Kiwi's in particular), and there, sitting on top was a wild lovebird!!! My husband was able to catch it and the new little guy (or gal) is in a little cage right next to Kiwi, and they've been chatting up a storm! He's going to be quarentined for a while and I'm going to take him to a vet this weekend so hopefully he's healthy

One bird for one heart.

Wow! Where do you live that there are wild lovebirds?

Definitely keep a strict quarantine because you have no idea what this little one may be carrying and you don't want to endanger Kiwi. A vet visit is definitely a must!

This has got to be a REALLY wild little love so a lot of patience will be required for taming. I wish you the best with all of it.

I live in Southern California. Occasionally I'll see flocks of parrots but not very often. This is the first time I've seen a wild lovebird in the area though :) Took Beaker (the new little guy) to the vet over the weekend- got a clean bill of health- blood work and skin scraping(for precaution) all good :) I have slowly started introducing them outside of the cages on a play gym. They get upset when I separate them to go back in their cages but that's all apart of being a good birdie parent:)

oh my goodness! That's like a story from a book! Man, if I saw lovebirds flying around here I don't know what I'd do! (I'm Canadian, so it's a real stretch :P )

I grew up in Southern Cali and had a lovebird when I was in my teens. I ended up catching three wild lovies all at different times when they would hear my bird making noise. Two ended up getting fairly tame but one was out for blood....boy she was a mean one!

We used to get what I think were flocks of red front conures that would fly by. I always tried to get them to come down but they were never interested. It was still fun to see them fly by though =)
