Hi guys
We have been trying to move house for a year.
I don't know how many of you know about the dreadful chains that build up in English real estate transactions. Well, we got one chain together and that broke down last May. We then lost the house we wanted, along with £1,500 in wasted costs on surveys and such like.
Found another house (nicer than the original - funny how these things work out in the end) and got the chain back together by means of us having to buy the house at the bottom to let out, and then all the searches etc had to go through. A nailbiting time.
The thing that makes the deal binding is called "exchange of contracts" and that finally happened on Friday. We were in touch by email with the whole of the chain, and we were all camped in front of our PCs for the whole day following the progress of the lawyers, which was in part quite dreadful. I feel some formal complaints coming on. Fortunately my lawyer saved the day by extending a deadline part way through, and the deal got done at 5pm.
I am so relieved you would not believe it. I am in the process of going self-employed working from home and the uncertainty of where I will be has of course held up the printing of stationery, sorting out website etc etc.
Anyhow we move on 12th October. It's amazing how you can endure stress for so long and not even realise quite how badly you actually are feeling until the stress gets taken away and you notice how much better you feel. Boy, have we been partying this weekend!!!
Sorry to ramble on, it's just such a relief to be on the go at last.
My next stress will be moving the lovies. We are moving about 20 mins drive away from where we are now, and the lady who looks after our birds lives further away than that. We go on holiday 3 days after moving (anniversary cruise of a lifetime) and I was really worried she would not be prepared to come the extra distance. I managed to persuade her by telling her how scared and unsettled the birds will be by the move, and at least if they are looked after by someone they know it will help a little. Poor little guys will probably think I have abandoned them as it is. But I shall be well ready for that cruise by then.
Will let you know how we all get on.
