We are going to be painting our whole house starting Monday. We are using latex, not oil. I have somewhere for kiwi to stay, but only until Wed. If I paint his room first, would it be safe for him to come home while I paint the rest of the house, which will take until Friday? If I close his door, and seal the frame with a towel, would that be safe? if not, then if i find somewhere for him to stay, when would it be safe for him to come home if they finish Friday?
I really do not want to take any chances, so for those of you who have experience with this situation, I could use some advice.
Thanks for your help! :)

Hi Robyn and Kiwi. ..... May not be of much help, but I used "low VOC" (Low...volatile organic compounds) type interior paint. ... After a day or two, there was very little if any odor. .. Because I didn't know much about the effects of latex paint, I decided not to take any risk. ... Here's a link to some manufacturers of "low VOC" paints. ... http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/698751/top_odorfree/interior_paints_for_home.html ..........:)

Thanks for the article on low VOC - it helps to be informed. We will definitely be using latex with low VOC. Did you keep Goofy and B.B. home while you were painting?

....... Did you keep Goofy and B.B. home while you were painting?
Kept them upstairs in a sealed room. ..I even blocked the heating vent. .. After three days, I moved them downstairs, then painted the upstairs. ... I had the neighbor check for fumes every now and then. Reason? .. Not being exposed to the paint job, she had a fresh nose for fumes. .........:)

I am going to get the Olympic no VOC paint http://www.olympic.com/Paint/Go_Green/go_green.aspx
The price is good on this as well, and I plan on keeping all of my birds home while I paint. I have to paint two rooms on the other end of the house from where I'll be putting the birds while we paint and I plan on only painting when it's warm enough to open windows and we can shut the doors to the rooms we paint. We were supposed to be doing all of this over this past summer, but Kevin had another big job building a deck for someone, and he's building a garage for someone else now, so the bird room waits! hopefully this spring! Let me know how your paint is, as far as the smell. I'm really hoping to not have to move my birds out when I paint....I think moving them to the other end of the house and keeping the doors closed to the painted rooms with windows open should be fine.
