Hello,

I have been reading this forum for a couple years now and now I need some help. We have two love birds Ernie and Ellie. The last 2 weeks she has been acting odd. A bit dazed and confused. She does not want to leave her cage and fly around like normal. She won't come out of the cage for my wife. She will get out for me snuggle up and than fly back to her cage. When she does this she gets on top and just stares at the wall. She knows how to get in. Also she is just sitting in the cage not doing much of anything, she gets all fluffy and sits around and sits beside her mate.

She was a chirper a very very big chirper, she is now very very quiet. I get her to chirp every now and than but nothing?

Hopefully someone has an idea what might be wrong with her.

Oh they are about 5 and a half years old and ernie is fine.

I'm sorry to hear that Ellie isn't feeling well. And that's the gut feeling I get when I read your message.

What you are describing could be symptoms of almost anything but you are looking at a major behavior change and that warrants a visit to your avian vet ASAP! Birds are experts at hiding illness because to appear sick in the wild would leave them vulnerable to attack by predators. This cannot wait, as once you see serious symptoms, you will be looking at an emergency.

If you don't have an avian vet, check our Resource Library. There are 2 links. One for the AAV look up and another that lists avian vets that our members have used and trust.

Good luck and please let us know how Ellie is doing!

Linda's right.....a noisey bird that gets quiet is not a good sign, when they get quiet, it's usually a sign of illness. This is the reason why I always try to smile when my birds get too noisey, instead of getting annoyed with the noise.
