I just wanted to share that I got my A+ certification today, right before the lifetime cutoff. Hehe. Altogether, I spent two weeks studying just by doing practice exams and getting help and explanations from my bf. I've had Winter Break off but it feels like I didn't get any break at all! I've got to enjoy this last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday before I go back to work!!

Now if I ever want to get out of preschool teaching, I can get an entry-level IT job! Woot!!

The bf wanted me to add... that I love him more than all my birds (but really, he and Mika are on the same love level), and that he waltzed into the test center and took the Network+ exam cold turkey and passed (so now he's got A+, N+, and S+). Just needed to add that... 'cause he's, you know, sitting right behind me. :rotfl

Congratulations, Maya!!

You go, girl!!! With our economy right now, the more you know, the better your chances are of finding a career that actually pays some kind of money. :)

Thanks! My bf just wanted me to get it because he knows I don't want to do preschool teaching forever. A 4 year degree gets me nothing in the IT field, but an A+ will get my foot in the door (ain't that funny?).

Thanks! Luckily, my bf already has a good job... but once he gets his CCNA certification, that will open up doors for even better paying jobs. For me, I'm just gonna ride out the preschool teaching thing for maybe a few more years and then go from there. There's never really been anything in my life that I wanted to do as a career - I never had that "I want to be a ___________!!!" moment. I'm good with kids and I'm a good preschool teacher, it comes naturally, but it's not my passion or my love. Why can't there be any good paying jobs where you work with lovebirds all day??? It sucks that my only passion is one that won't pay the bills... :rotfl

If you find a job like that you'd better keep quiet about it. Otherwise you'll have competition from a few hundred applicants from here....

Oh man, the zoo is way too far from Makakilo - heck, I've gotten to the point where Pearlridge is starting to seem far to me!! :rotfl We stay within the Waipahu-Makakilo/Kapolei area most of the time since our families and everything we could ever need is within that small distance!! Besides, if I worked at the zoo I'd have to work with ALL the birds - I'd ideally like a lovebird-specific career!! Hehehe.

You've struck on one of my pet peeves! Good preschool teachers should be MUCH better paid than the are. It's such an important part of a child's education & can set a child off right...or WRONG, thereby affecting their entire lives! By the time you get to college, most people could probably educate themselves.

And I'm not surprised you are good with the kids. You are passionate about loveies, and lovies are a lot like preschoolers!

I don't know about other states but, in Hawaii, it's extremely hard to be single and a preschool teacher. 99% of preschool teachers I know either live with their parents still or live with their significant other. I've only known one single preschool teacher before and she STRUGGLED to make rent and pay for other living expenses. Another preschool teacher I know isn't single, but she bought her condo on her own and ALL her teaching money goes to pay the mortgage and maintenance fees so she had to take on a second job to pay for living expenses.

If I weren't with shinbatsu I'd have to be living with my parents again...
