The Pointsetta is on Robin's list of toxic plants. Not only should your lovie not be eating it, but you need to keep a very close eye on Martha.

How much did she eat, and for how long?

If it were my Trixie Bunny I would be at the Avi vet right away.

Taylor,

If you are sure Martha ate some of the plant, call your avian vet. Poinsettas are toxic plants, and it would be best to be on the safe side and have your vet take a look at her.

Please let us know how she is doing.

A couple of big bites to her but small to me. I think for 2 days. I keep taking it away but she gets to it. She hasn't been acting sick or anything.

If Trixie had eaten some I would Pawn something or do whatever it took to get the vet bill money, unless they will bill you.

It definately worth the call. You wouldnt want something bad to happen. Its really not worth the Risk and we all know how much you love Martha. Please keep us posted.

Taylor,
Many times, it doesn't take much of a toxic substance to kill an animal or bird. I would be prepared to be taking Martha to see an avian vet and I would also find out if there are any emergency clinics in your area that treat birds after regular vet hours.

This is something you need to sit down and discuss with your parents. Martha is your bird so she is your responsibility and that includes meidical care. Are your parents willing to take Martha to the vet if she needs to go?

You are going to need to make some decisions, with your family, about the things that can stay in the house while you own a bird that is allowed to roam free. Getting rid of toxic plants, scented air fresheners, non-stick cookware are all things on the list of items that need to be removed from the home.

Your bird cannot be allowed to continue to be exposed to things that can kill her. You can not wait till she gets sick to begin to react to the things that are harmful to her, like poisonous plants. Allowing her access to these things, even for a moment is irresponsible, and you will pay a hard price to learn that lesson if you are not more careful.

Taylor bring your parents here and show them the board and the attention section. Maybe if they read it they will understand better. I would pawn anything I had(and did for my birds vet bills) for my pets even my daughters hamster.

Taylor, I have nothing to add to what Shy posted. She's exactly right so I hope you'll read it and know it's all true.

Have you read the "Your Attention Please" section on the forum? You really, really need to if you haven't. Every single toxic thing, yes, including poinsettia's, is listed there.

Martha is just fine now. She just took a few bites out of it. I am not even sure if she "ate" any of it.

Taylor,
Please take what Shy has to say seriously. You may be lucky this time but luck will run out at some point and there will be no reprieves or second chances. Birds go down very quickly and you need to be able to react immediately should Martha become sick. You need to have a plan and this needs to be discussed with your parents.

Taylor, hopefully she is alright.....this time. What we're hoping to pass along to you is that eventually, your luck and Martha's will run out. Many, many household items can kill a bird. If you'll look at Robins list, you see just how many. These are things that, until you have a bird, you'd never give a second thought to because dogs and cats, for the most part are unaffected.

This is never going to happen again.
