Does anyone bake on here? I've been wanting to make muffins but everything has a coating of something nonstick on it. I found one brand (Nordic ware) that looks decent but they use silicon coating. Don't know if that's safe though.

I do. I use aluminum muffin pan and I use the paper liner cups to avoid the sticking issue.

Bookworm, if you go to a restaurant supply store (or even order online from them) you can get regular aluminum that has no non-stick coating on it. I generally bake with glass or stone wear, but I do have a few non-stick things that are pretty new that I may need to occasionally bake with if I ever have the need to.

Like NickyBeth, I either use glass, stainless steel, aluminum or cast iron. All my non-stick has been gone for quite a number of yrs. I'm just not comfortable with any kind of non-stick, as I'm not necessarily the only one cooking in my kitchen!

I just thought of something else. If you have a dollar store near you, check out the disposable tin aisle. Normally, you can get three pans of whatever you want for $1.00. This way, you can see if you like baking in that sort of pan before you buy it!

I also have disposable aluminum ones and I use paper cups as well. I've never seen muffin pans that are not coated with teflon around here.

Cracker Barrel stores carry cast iron muffin pans. There is no nonstick anything in my house. Accidents always eventually happen. Also, if it's that bad for birds, it's probably not all that great for humans either.
