so i just ordered a 20 lb bag of volksman bird seeds. what is the best way of storing it? i normally order 8 lbs of it, but it doesn't last me long enough. i have an airtight container for the 8 lbs, but what should i do w/ the rest? just put in a larger pet food container?

I do the same thing that Dave_K. does, except I use large plastic containers and I keep mine in a chest type freezer. When I need seed, I simply take out what I need and leave the rest in the freezer. There's too much moisture in refrigerators and that's inviting problems.

I store mine the same way as Linda.

I buy 55lb sacks then split them into 5 great big huge sealed buckets. Don't freeze though.

I freeze it for a day (to avoid moths) then put them in airtight washed out coffee containers (foldgers)

Does anyone use Clear Plastic wrap on the bottom of bird cages?
Where can i go to take the metal ring off one of my lovebirds' feet?

We use paper liners in the bottom of the bird cages. Plastic wrap would be unsafe if your birds can get to it and chew on it. Ours sometimes can reach the edges of the paper and they love chewing it up. Sneaky little lovies!

If your bird is tame and you have the right tool you might be able to carefully cut the ring off yourself.

You don't want to risk injury to your bird so if you are unsure of how to do it I would suggest having your avian vet do it.
