Where Are You, Mommy?

Harley just gave me the surprise of my life! I was working in my Abby room, which is the back bedroom on the far side of the house, and I was talking on the phone to my brother while I was cleaning, feeding and changing water. I was back there for probably 45 minutes or so. When I finished, I picked up the food containers and I was headed back to the kitchen to put the cornbread in the frig. Out of habit, I always look down when I walk and, as I started to leave the room, here's Harley, walking along the short hallway that leads to that bedroom!!! He could hear my voice, so he followed it until he found me!!! Now mind you, he walked completely across the house to get to where I was! Gotta luv 'em........ :)

I got Harley at a 2 day bird show in my area about 4 yrs ago. The vendor at the next table had bought him from a couple who were divorcing and neither one of them wanted Harley or his CAG companion. Harley made his way over to my table and would not stay anywhere else. It took me until the second day to realize that I would break his heart if I didn't take him home, so there went my show profits plus quite a bit more cash on top of that. I never regretted that decision and you can believe I gave it a lot of thought.

Linda, SWEET! I love that story! My DREAM bird is a CAG or a TAG. I actually held a 3 month old CAG at the bird fair but only because it was NOT for sale.....the woman who had the bird was keeping her (yes, a sweet little female) and I made sure of that before I touched it! I knew I was safe! :D That little Grey cuddled with me and was so cute. The owner told me she'd already found a home for her for "later" and it's in her will. That is the reason I shy away from the larger parrots, my age. I need to find some really nice young bird lover who will step in and take my birds if needed. :)

I automatically look down. It's second nature with me. My mother didn't see one of our pet parakeets that was on the floor and she accidentally stepped on it. I've never gotten over it and I make very sure I won't repeat what happened. Funny thing, I was only 10 yrs old at the time, and the picture is still very vivid in my memory.

You are going to have to get Ginger's approval on that! :lol She considers herself to be royalty in my flock and she has to get along with all newcomers. So far, she's been very accepting. Harley was the last parrot to join my flock. Ginger doesn't count lovebirds, as most don't compete with her for attention! I've been talking to her about adding another Amazon and she's OK with that, as that one would be a companion for Alex. Wanna come back as an Amazon??? :lol
