How do I get my lovebird to know that i'm giving him the food not taking it?

Everytime i give my lovebird food he bites me SUPERRR HARD D:
How do i let him know that i'm giving it to him? D:

To this day, there are very few if any foods/treats that don't prompt my lovebirds "survival instincts". .. Popcorn, nutriberries, millet especially, are all met with at least some level of competitiveness. ... With most foods, I place them in the palm of my hand, otherwise, there's little room for human fingers. .. On the other hand, I have had some success with offering a tiny piece of food the size of a small pellet held between my thumb and forefinger. .. Whether you start out with a small piece in your palm or between your fingers, sometimes you can incorporate other exercizes like "step ups" as a way to help train your bird. ..........:)
