Two of my babies have homes. Both new momma's want a DNA test. No problem at all, but how do I tell them apart!!!!! Help!!!!!!! LOL They all look the same!! Even Rudy looks like them and he is from the first clutch. The only way I know which one he is, is cause he is clipped. Any ideas? If they were puppies, I'd tie string around their necks (loosely).

Since there are no obvious differences, you are going to have to create one. Perhaps you can use a permanent marker and color a few feathers under one of the wings. I would make the mark up near the wing web so it's not terribly visible unless you know what you are looking for. I've seen breeders put marks on the brow feathers but that looks odd to me and I prefer to have my marks not so visible to the human eye.

I remember leaving a clutch of Black Cheeked babies with their parents a bit too long. All of a sudden, parents and babies looked alike except for mom because she was banded! I finally figured out who was who when the parents wouldn't let the youngsters sleep in the nest box anymore........

It's not silly LOL. I couldn't tell Tango and Zulu apart when i got them home. After quarantine I put them in the wrong cage more than once. Their cage mates were soon to let me know something was wrong :rotfl

After a couple of days I could tell them apart based on their personalities but from a distance I never knew who was whom. LOL

I always snipped a feather or two in 1/2 to tell birdies apart. Usually a tail feather, or a feather on their leg or back.
Not silly at all!

I agree that it's not a silly problem. I had to laugh because I've had it happen to me!!!

:) Thank you thank you!! I am glad to know that this is a common thing. Every idea I came up with, painting toenails, putting a dot on one foot, etc, only could help if they were human babies! At least I have some more ideas now.

I have the same problem,I just got my lovie brothers Kiwi and Tweety dna'd.Come to find out Tweety and Kiwi are brother/sister. I kind of figured because Tweety (male) is sweet and Kiwi (female)is mean lol.
When I put my hand in the cage Tweety will step up and Kiwi just bites. When they are out playing with the other birds, especially my other set of brothers from different parrents, I like to see who is getting friendly. So hence the black marker on Tweety birds beak! I was thinking though, I have heard of the open bands, if you could get them in diffenent colors that would work, but for now marker works.
