Yes. It is a hen getting ready to lay an egg. Her vent area is swollen and it looks like a torpedo.:)

Here is a link (I hope it works) of Melody in laying condition. A picture is worth a thousand words. Look how you can really the definition of the egg in the profile of the vent area.

Since I learned to see this I have noticed it also on the hummingbird hens at my feeders.
