We will be replacing our carpeting in living room due to slight water damage and will be bringing home our new baby as soon as he is weaned. Since his cage will be in the living room, is the new carpet a concern? Can he be harmed by fumes or anything given off by the carpeting?

Advice will be appreciated.

Birds and new carpeting is a HUGE concern! New carpeting will off gas for anywhere up to 3 months and those fumes are deadly to the respiratory systems of birds. I had a water pipe break in a wall and I ended up replacing existing carpeting with laminent flooring. Other options include ceramic tile and there's another new flooring called Allure. There are no fumes from anything I've listed, as no glue or anything else is used when it's laid down.

Linda: Thanks so much for your prompt response. We were planning on shopping for new carpeting Friday afternoon and have to consider other options which you suggested.
