ever since pig was a baby his feathers seem really scuffy, i have clipped his wings to see if they would grow in smooth but he is still scruffy. i think he is beautiful but just hope it doesnt mean there is something wrong with him,,,, his brother ernie's feathers are normal.

When the new feathering started coming in, you're saying it's still scruffy looking, right? Refresh my memory a bit. What mutations are the parents? Sometimes when you breed certain mutations together, you can get offspring with feathering that looks unkempt and it will show up most often in double dark factor birds, which Piggy is.

They are both blue series mutations and it looks like each one is carrying a single dark factor. Ernie only inherited a dark factor from one parent, but Piggy inherited 2, one from each parent. You could test for PBFD but I think it's going to go back to genetics. I've got a red mutation male CAG and his feathering is unkempt. It's been like that since I've had him and I suspect it goes back to his genetic make up. He's PBFD negative.

i have ordered a test kit from health gene the same place as i got the dna tests from to test pig. How is it that a bird could be born with this and if he does have it does that mean he would have passed it to all the other birds...........
