there's a client at work whose lovebird died a few months ago and today she gave me his old belongings. she disinfected the rope perches, but i want to disinfect them myself as well. how do i do that? i'm not sure why her bird died, but he wasn't acting like himself, she took him to the vet, and then he passed away the next day otherwise he was a pretty healthy little guy. she had him for several years and never had a problem til then. i know i can use bleach, but not sure what ratio of bleach to water to use. she gave me some perches (rope and wood), some toys, and his happy hut. i'm thinking about tossing the hut as i don't really need it cuz mine all have one. anyway, any tips on disinfecting the perches and toys would be awesome.

You can use 10% bleach solution. With the perches, you can soak them in the bleach solution and then put them out in the sun for a few hrs. Works like a charm. The hardest virus to kill is the one that causes PBFD. Had a necropsy revealed that to be cause of death, I would not even take any items that were offered.

Soak them in Chloramine T (Halamid D) or a strong bleach solution (I use 15-20%). A 12-24 soak will kill anything that could be harmful to your bird. :)
