I was marveling at the growth of the 2 parrotlet babies still in the nest box since the parents stopped feeding the 2nd one, and Chris says "Frey is staring at you." so I went over to Frey as soon as I was finished looking at the babes, and gave Frey my finger to step up and he bit me! :omg:"Baby" Frey says. Making his opinion on the matter clear. Frey has never bit.

Koko goes back and forth between marveling at the babies and being jealous of them. The other day he asked "can I have some?" of the hand feeding formula. No way! Sometimes he tells me to "goodbye" the babies, meaning he wants me to put them back in the brooder, and asks me to come sit with him while I'm feeding them, but he's getting better about it and cheering the babies on. He finally said "I love you babies!" today.

Kristi,
I'm shocked! I didn't think Frey knew that beaks could be used for biting!!! :omg:

After I'm done hand feeding and if I have formula left, I usually split up what's left with other curious beaks. A little tiny taste and they love it! Ginger, my import, is the only one who's not figured out what to do with a syringe. :lol

I know- I NEVER expected to be bitten by Frey! He's so good natured and easy going! As velcroed as Odie is to Frey, Frey is fine with coming out to play without Odie, too so I'd always thought of Frey as being without much jealousy too... I guess we all have sore spots! Frey has never been a biter, though he will occasionally give kisses on the lip that are a little too hard for Chris

I took your advice and offered the syringe to Koko when he asked again and :rotfl in moments, he's on his back in my hand guzzling it down. Now, until about 10 months ago, Koko would enjoy snuggling up on his back in my hands and having his tummy tickled, his feet kissed, but he's grown up and become more independent- a good thing over all. Its nice to have him say "Ok! Come right back... Come back.... now! repeatedly" instead of screaming his head off when I leave the room. He enjoyed it. Right afterward, he stood and gazed with a very happy look in his eyes at the babies in the brooder and said "I love you, I love you so much." So long as it won't cause any regression issues, I'm happy to oblige him. Its a good way to give a healthy treat, keep him used to the syringe in case he was ever sick, and to keep a sensitive little buddy from feeling left out... not to mention to deposit some otherwise wasted formula!

There's something about warm formula that previously hand fed adults just can't resist! As long as it's not a constant thing, there's no harm done and someone gets to eat the leftovers rather than throwing away the extra that you made. I'm good at guessing how much I need but I'm never so accurate as to have nothing left!
