its nice to know!
my boys tuck when they decide they want to "nest" but they aren't good at it. though they do both of those things less and less as they get older.
leave it to lovebirds.

Munch is.......
A girl!!!
Congratulations on knowing what Munch is! She shreds/tucks like a boy but I'm sure she will learn the fine art of how to do it with a bit of practice! Yes, I've had proven hens do the self-satisfaction thing and I've had hens mount the males. That's exactly why I refused to commit to a guess as to Munch's gender..... I've learned better!

Actually, even if Peachie hens are great shredders/tuckers, they aren't great nest builders. They tend to take material into the box, spread it around a little bit, hollow out an area in one part of the nest and lay their eggs in that spot. The master nest builders are your eye-ring species! They can fill an entire box and have intricate tunnels leading to where the hen will have her eggs. There have been times when I've opened the back of an eye-ring nest and found nothing visible but nesting material from top to bottom. I even had a pair of Fischer's that kept extra material to close off the entrance hole when it got dark!!!
