Hi,
I have one lovebird who is about five years old now. 2 days ago, he suddenly had the urge to regurgitate. Every time I get him to step up on my finger from his cage, he steps up, then starts gagging and regurgitating on my hand. Today, he did the same thing, tried to regurgitate on my hand, and suddenly decided to go onto the floor. So I brought him to the floor, and he ran to my foot (I was wearing socks), examined it, and started humping it :rotfl! I took him off and put him on his pen. Ever since, he has a sudden urge to go on the floor and hump my sock.

Should I let him hump my sock, or should I discourage it?

Thanks :)

This is normally male behavior but I've had an occasional female do the same thing but I will say that there's an excellent chance that your lovebird is a male and the behavior is quite normal if homones have kicked in. If you don't allow him to hump your sock, he will simply find another place so it's pretty much a personal choice if you want him doing what he's doing where he's doing it. :)

My birds love to hump the fleece sleep hut.... In fact they loved it so much that was all they did ALL day! They never made even a chirp all day, but had rubbed all the feathers off their bums! So alas, no hump huts anymore and they are back to chirping!

Yours may not become so obsessed... You may like that option instead of your sock.... Lol.... Less personal

Pip used to have a little soft ropey thing that was his hump toy, but he has since given that up for Ivy's swing! If your bird is regurgitating, you may want to give him some soft thing, maybe something covered with an old sock! that you can throw away and replace instead of having to clean up after him regurgitating on it. I'm lucky with Pip......he doesn't regurgitate......he's happy just humping! Another thing.....I don't give Pip any soft toys to hump in his cage.......he only has that when he's out.....I don't want him humping all day while I'm at work! he does it enough when I'm here!
