View Full Version : Noisy Noisy Noisy!

Turkey is about a year old now. He's been a lovely bird so far up until a month or so ago where he has decided that being extremely noisy is the best thing in the world. I love his cute little chirps and don't mind the occasional loud talking but in the past month I would say a good 50% of the time he is out of his cage it is Full blown loud screaming or talking. His time outside the cage really hasn't diminished, in fact it may have increased a bit. Probably around 6 hours a day during the week and 10+ during weekends. His wings, which were clipped when I got him, have grown out and he has been able to fly for probably 2-3 months which has made him a bit less tame to the hand but he still spends most of his 'out' time with me (though a little less now because I fear I will go deaf from his screaming so loud in my ear).
Is this just a phase? Or is there anything I can do to lessen his screaming? Would clipping his wings again and making him a bit more tame help? Or is this just the way he will be forever on and I just just buy earplugs? Haha. Any help or advice would be great!

I too suffer hearing damage from my lovies... Only Eddie made the ear splitting chirp orginally, but Jimmy has successfully picked it up.
Is turkey the only bird you have?
I do think the wing clip works wonders on attitude adjustment and would try that......

Could be a number of things, have you noticed a wild bird or another lovebird near by calling or talking to turkey?
Have you tried ignoreing him when he is loud and rewarding him with millet when he makes soft chirps?
Also it is hard to make noise when they are preening if he is getting on your last nerve try letting him take a bath then he will be quiet and preen.
Is there a large mirror nearby he may be calling to a relection, honestly with lovebirds it could any number of things lol

I have resorted to the bath thing before! Lol.....
I did see a quote once that said a noisy bird is a happy bird.... There is one positive for you..... Lol

Thanks for the replies. Turkey is definitely the only bird around. I will try the bath thing (I have been waiting for 2 months for my local pet shop to get the bird bath in that goes with his cage) how do your birds like a misting sprayer thing?
I am also gonna clip his wings this weekend to see if that helps. Does anybody have a really good diagram for clipping wings? I haven't seen one yet that I can confidentally say 'oh that's how to do it'
Thanks.
